About this listen

“I used to be a lesbian.”

In Gay Girl, Good God, author Jackie Hill Perry shares her own story, offering practical tools that helped her in the process of finding wholeness. Jackie grew up fatherless and experienced gender confusion. She embraced masculinity and homosexuality with every fiber of her being. She knew that Christians had a lot to say about all of the above. But was she supposed to change herself? How was she supposed to stop loving women, when homosexuality felt more natural to her than heterosexuality ever could?

At age 19, Jackie came face-to-face with what it meant to be made new. And not in a church, or through contact with Christians. God broke in and turned her heart toward him right in her own bedroom in light of his gospel.

Listen in order to understand. Listen in order to hope. Or listen in order, like Jackie, to be made new.

The Raw, Un-Sugar Coated Truth

I loved this book. Mrs. Perry did a fine job of demonstrating how homosexuality is less a sin so powerful that everyone doesn’t know how to deal with, but more of a sin just like all other sin with the core being one thing: unbelief. Mrs. Perry does a fine job of presenting the LOVE for God as the primary focus when dealing with not just homosexuality but also all other sin. She really shows how God is much more interested in us enjoying Him in freedom than He is making everyone straight. Simply put, God wants to show mankind that He truly is—in all aspect of body, soul, and spirit—enough for each and everyone one of us.

I’m a straight girl that loves many gay people

This book is so filled with truth and life altering. It’s giving me a better understanding of how to love those in my life who are struggling with same-sex attraction. But I found myself weeping and repenting and healing as many of the wounds she describes that being a girl has brought to her, I have also struggled. My sin just manifested differently. Stilson for still separating me from God. I have a lot to pray about and repent for! I encourage you to be open to a powerful gospel that will not only save you from yourself but sustain you as you live it out. That is what this book is about. Thank you Jackie for obeying Jesus and sharing it all with us. I pray everyone would read this book.

Pulls back the veil on a topic that so impacts our world today!

Very helpful to understand the struggle, and how to love and pray for people with same sex attraction. A biblical perspective that challenges every Christian to fully relinquish our struggles (whatever they are!) to the God who wants ALL of us. Thank you, Jackie, for your transparency!

Powerful but Gentle

Jackie does an amazing job redirecting a society and Western Christian culture that focuses on marriage as the end goal. Being a single man, I do have many friends, some Christian/non-Christian and gay/straight, with any combination of both. Her testimony is powerful in showing what JESUS, not marriage, can do to change a soul. Excellent read/listen for anyone, whether they are struggling with same sex attraction or not.

Beautiful, heart-wrenching, hopeful

I've never read another author like Jackie Hill Perry; never knew anyone to string words and thoughts and truth together so beautifully, honestly and achingly. Tears of sadness, hurt, joy and gladness ran through nearly the entire book.

Gay Girl Good God

An amazing testimony about the power of submitting to God!
This book caused me to examine my relationship with God. It's not judge-mental but full of Gods grace.
I love how she makes scripture come alive. It is so black and white. If you want to live right both heterosexual and homosexual Christian then you must submit your life to the power of the Holy Spirit! If we as believers truly want to live as Jesus we must crucify (not an easy thing to our flesh. Think about what Jesus must've endured and the reason why).
Reading this book reminded me of the constant battle of our flesh against spirit fight! No matter the struggle choose life meaning choose Gods way. We have the power within the gospel to not yield to any of our temptations.
A must read!
Thanks for sharing your heart Jackie. It will help people who love God be set free from the lies of the enemy with every temptation we face in life. Sexuality just happens to be one.

Captivating

This book keep my attention from beginning to end. It opened my eyes to a world I am very unfamiliar with. She is very open and honest about her life and does not hold any punches about the church and how it is perceived by the Gay community. Her honesty about her struggle and how except Jesus does not make this struggle disappear but helped her learn to give it to God daily. Definitely recommend

God’s Love and Light for Gays

With commanding style and poetic voice, Jackie Hill Perry tells the story of God’s love and light in her life. Using scriptural insight, she tells how God works in and through her life and how God’s love was always there for her. Her novel shines the light of truth from God’s word whereby Christians can examine their attitudes toward the the Gay community and whereby Gays can examine God’s call on their lives. It is a compelling story of a courageous life.
