Publisher's summary

From the author of beloved novels Ms. Bixby's Last Day and Posted comes a hilarious, heartfelt, and unforgettable novel about a fairy-in-training.

Everyone who wishes upon a star, or a candle, or a penny thrown into a fountain knows that you're not allowed to tell anyone what you've wished for. But even so, there is someone out there who hears it.

In a magical land called the Haven lives a young fairy named Ophelia Delphinium Fidgets. Ophela is no ordinary fairy - she is a Granter: one of the select fairies whose job it is to venture out into the world and grant the wishes of unsuspecting humans every day.

It's the work of the Granters that generates the magic that allows the fairies to do what they do, and to keep the Haven hidden and safe. But with worldwide magic levels at an all-time low, this is not as easy as it sounds. On a typical day, only a small fraction of the millions of potential wishes gets granted.

Today, however, is anything but typical. Because today, Ophelia is going to get her very first wish-granting assignment.

And she's about to discover that figuring out how to truly give someone what they want takes much more than a handful of fairy dust.

A nine year olds opinion

This book combined two worlds and made it great! The reader sounds like a fairy. It is a semifairytale about a fairy that grants wishes and has to go through the real world to do it. That’s s book is great for readers 7-14 and is awesome p.s I am the nine year old not my dad/mom

We loved this book!

My daughter is not much of a sit and read or just listen to a book until this one. we listened as we drove to school each morning g and then again on the way home. I found her asking questions and inferring things, making connections, visualizing, and problem solving things she would do. she was trying out some new vocab she heard in the story. This author did an amazing job with suspense, and painting a picture for the reader. great book! great performance!

Book and Narrator Deserves More Stars!

•audiobook•

Fairies granting wishes. This is, hands down, the most well written book for MG readers or caregivers, parents, educators to read to youngsters. In my case, listen to.
A beautiful, immaculate fantasy world. All of the characters are so lush with hope, dreams, and optimism. Ophelia and Charlie are simply lovely and wholesome; their teasing is sooo cute and gentle.
Sentence structures blend with such whimsical words, it’s soo “bright as birdsong”.
Words escape me to describe this delightful book.
Cassandra Morris’ musical voice trickled as she shared the story. I listened to this three times! Only my commitment to other narrators/authors prompted me to move on.
Perfect, perfect for the start of our “real” spring, now that Mother Nature has finally decided to change the season!
Deserving of stand up applause and gratitude for a genuine masterpiece. Thank goodness, good literature and vivid imagination live on for the next generation with (audio)books like this!
