Pip is an orphan, brought up by his sister and her husband, the kindly blacksmith Joe Gargery. One evening, while visiting his parents' graves, he has a shocking encounter with an escaped convict who forces Pip to help him. The very next day, he is invited to go and see Miss Havisham, a rich old lady who is seeking a playmate for the beautiful Estella. Always a fan

It's hard to believe there are people out there who don't enjoy Charles Dickens. This one and David Copperfield are favorites.

Narrator

Loved the abridged version. Narrator was absolutely marvelous. This version of the story was very modern

You really can’t go wrong with a classic

Can’t go wrong with a classic in deed, good literature, not predictable at all, very entertaining and too long as well

Good short read

I'm sure I'm a terrible person only giving Dickens 3 stars. I guess I was expecting more details and explanation between transitions. I've probably been reading too many sagas. The overall adventure was wonderful though. Great read while cooking or doing laundry.

A classic

It's performed very well. I appreciate the length as it is a classic, yet this version allows the story to be digestible.

Dickens lives

I just finished watching the Hulu TV series, Lessons in Chemistry'. This book plays an important role in the series. I looked it up on audible and saw this 1-hour short version and decided to give it a listen.

While not a 1:1 fit with the TV series you can see why a boy raised in an orphanage would have related to this tale. And those that loved him felt the bond with the book and that gave them a better understanding of him.

only bits and pieces

I wondered how the narrator could cover the entire book in an hour. While the performance was very nice it skips around quite a lot often jumping over several pages to get to the next section. Sort of like the movie version of a book. So then just watch the movie.

wonderful pace keeping narrator

I was engaged the entire time and hope to participate in many more chapters by this narrator. Thank you.
