About this listen

"His perfect indifference, and your pointed dislike, make it so delightfully absurd!"

Pride and Prejudice has delighted generations of readers with its unforgettable cast of characters, carefully choreographed plot, and a hugely entertaining view of the world and its absurdities. With the arrival of eligible young men in their neighbourhood, the lives of Mr and Mrs Bennet and their five daughters are turned inside out and upside down. Pride encounters prejudice, upward-mobility confronts social disdain, and quick-wittedness challenges sagacity, as misconceptions and hasty judgements lead to heartache and scandal, but eventually to true understanding, self-knowledge, and love. In this supremely satisfying story, Jane Austen balances comedy with seriousness, and witty observation with profound insight. If Elizabeth Bennet returns again and again to her letter from Mr Darcy, readers of the novel are drawn even more irresistibly by its captivating wisdom.

A wonderful story told in a most elegant manner. Also expertly read with a voice simply perfect for the story. I would give it about 7 stars if possible.

I never thought I'd be a Jane Austen fan, but I found her writing to be so carefully and prettily constructed that, as different as it is from any contemporary style, it wasn't hard to follow once you get used to it, and it became very easy to admire just what a clever and witty writer she was.

For me, this overshadowed the romance, since I'm not a reader of romances in general, and anyway, everyone knows the plot, right? But every movie adaptation loses something, and the details in the book give so much more meaning behind each twist and turn in the story and the ways the characters relate to each other. It's a perfectly-constructed novel with brilliant (and often very funny) writing. This really should be on everyone's bookshelf. I am resolved to read more novels by Miss Austen (and also to try to stop writing like her -- after listening to the audiobook for the past few days, I find all my sentences coming out in an excess of that style which is not my own).

The book is better than all the movies

Decided to revisit this since it is the 200th year of its publication. I very carefully selected this audio version (a good narrator is a must). It was excellent, again, how about that? I marvel at how Jane Austen can be poking such fun at her society without sounding snarky, and while still delivering a fun, romantic story. I recommend this particular audio version.

Still Great - 200 Years Later!

I’ve tried a few other narrations of Pride and Prejudice, but I enjoyed this one most.
Due respect was given to each character without extra dramatic effects that turned me off from other narrators. I love this book.

Enjoyable Narration

My wife and daughter talked me into reading this book. I enjoyed it and thought the narrator was excellent. She made the charactors come to life, while seaming to have fun with the story.

Enjoyed Both Story and Narration

This was extremely helpful in being able to follow along. It was also helpful with YouTube in helping review each chapter to help weed through the old English

Very helpful in reading a classic
