About this listen

This anthology of suspense showcases 5 renowned American mystery writers. The mixture begins with Lucky Day, by Mary Higgins Clark (narrated by Betsy Palmer). It's the story of a young bride who suspects her husband is somehow involved in a strange disappearance. Trapped, by Dean R. Koontz (narrated by Bess Armstrong), takes you into the darkest depths of terror as he explores the psychology of both sides of the human hunt. In Pastime, by Robert B. Parker (narrated by David Dukes), Spenser comes to the aid of a boy he once straightened out. Carol Higgins Clark narrates her own story, Snagged, in which private eye Regan Reilly follows a trail of murder and deceit at a pantyhose convention. Finally, Dealer's Choice, by Sara Paretsky (narrated by Elliott Gould), pays homage to Raymond Chandler by bringing back Philip Marlowe to investigate a case.©1988 by Sara Paretsky, Copyright (P) 1992 by Dove Audio, Inc.; 1993 by Carol Higgins Clark, Copyright (P)1993 by Dove Audio, Inc.; 1989 by Nkui, Inc., Copyright (P)1992 by Dove Audio, Inc.; 1986 by Mary Higgins Clark, Copyright ; 1991 by Robert B. WHY DID THEY MESS THIS UP???

What disappointed you about Great Mysteries, Great Writers?

The best one, the last was Robert B Parker - Pastime, the audio is HORRIBLE and unable to listen - FIRE THE PERSON who edited this

What was one of the most memorable moments of Great Mysteries, Great Writers?

Me finally reaching the story I wanted and not being able to listen to it

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of the narrators?

Joe Mantanga and Tom Selleck spoiled me with Robert B Parker

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Rest were ok, but the main course at the end ruined it

Any additional comments?

Wish I could have listened to it, only 30% of Pastime is audible

Poor Sound Quality, Not able to understand

I like the authors and stories, but the sound quality and narrative hard to understand. Missed more than half of one story because could not hear or understand the narration.

terrible audio spoiled the stories for me

unfortunately, the audio quality on this book was so bad that it spoiled the short stories from some of my favorite authors. I couldn't hear the narration half the time, even when I turned the volume to max. at first I thought it might be my phone that was the problem, but playing it on other devices, I had the exact same problem. please fix this so that other people don't suffer the same.

Audio quality a let-down

Though I'm a fan of these authors, the quality of this audiobook is below Audible's normal high standards. I'd recommend choosing another book. Audible, you might consider removing it from your line-up (or at least seeing to the audio quality).

Waste of a credit!!

I could not understand the last story because it was taped so quietly and was very muffled sounding. I tried deleting it and downloading it again, but nothing worked. Carol Higgins Clark read her own story and still could not make it interesting. She definitely does not have the talent of her mother!

Very bad recording. Almost garbage.

I have never had this experience with audible before. Sound recording on the last section was unintelligible.

Worst Audio Ever!

It’s hard to rate because the audio was so bad you couldn’t even hear the last story most of the time. The first story with Elliot Gould narrating had low static throughout and was a monotone performance. The only story with decent audio, performance and content was Dean Koontz’s. How did they release this without editing? How did Audible release and charge anything for it. By far worst experience for an audiobook ever.
