About this listen

In the feuding English court, gentle Lady Madelyne suffered the cruel whims of her ruthless brother, Baron Louddon. Then, in vengeance for a bitter crime, Baron Duncan of Wexton — the Wolf — unleashed his warriors against Louddon's domain. Exquisite Madelyne was the prize he captured...but when he gazed upon the proud beauty, he pledged to protect her with his life. In his rough-hewn castle, Duncan proved true to his honor. But when at last their noble passion conquered them both, she surrendered with all her soul. Now, for love, Madelyne would stand fast...as bravely as her Lord, the powerful Wolf who fought for Honor's Splendour.

Excellent reading

Never disappointed in anything Ms. Garwood writes, excited to discover her in audio books as I have all her written books and re-read them!

Love Julie Garwood and this story, However

Would you try another book from Julie Garwood and/or Anne Flosnik?

I will read and listen to any book Julie Garwood writes however, I do not like to listen to Anne Flosnik as it seems her words are ponderous and weighty vs light where they need to be. She has a nasal tone which I am sure is to convey the period and accents for the language but I think if she would loosen up some and pick up the speed in places the book would be a better listen. Do not base this author solely on the narrator. Try her other books done by other narrators.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Honor's Splendour?

The moment where the Wolf discovered how brave and selfless his prize was. The confusion he felt in direct proportion to how he viewed himself as the one in charge at all times.

What didn’t you like about Anne Flosnik’s performance?

Once again, Anne Flosnik needs to adjust her tone and speed as she drags the novel down in places and as I have read this book multiple times in hardback and paperback as one of my favorite authors, it bothers me more than it may others. When I read it in print there are places where I chuckle aloud, places where I wait with baited breath for the time to turn the page, and where I am proud to be female. That is the tone of Julie Garwood books. I will read other books that Julie Garwood writes with her narrating them, but I prefer not to.

Do you think Honor's Splendour needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I think all of Julie Garwood's books need a follow-up as there are so many other characters who have rich story lines waiting to be told and her signature style would convey itself well to that. I often want more than the last paragraph and would like to see the story 3 generations forward or in modern day tied into the heritage of their ancestors.

Any additional comments?

Would love the system to message us when we have certain authors who have new books come out or are pending so we can pre-order them. Love the new pre-order program where the book auto-downloads upon availability.

Didn't notice I was orderig abridged...

Any additional comments?

Just wanted to mention that I love Honor's Splendour. I have a copy in paperback and Kindle. I wanted it in audio as well, but didn't notice when I ordered it that it was ABRIDGED. An abridged book may be OK if you have never read the book before, but if you have, it is VERY disappointing. The parts of the book that are left out are ones that I believe add to the story. Ms. Garwood has written a very entertaining book, but I think the abridged version did not do the story credit. I ended up ordering a copy of the unabridged book in audio, and am happy with it. But I learned from this experience that I will never buy an abridged audio book ever again. I rated this 5 stars for the STORY, not the actual product.

Amazing story, terribly narrated...

Would you try another book from Julie Garwood and/or Anne Flosnik?

Julie Garwood, 10 stars. Anne Flosnik like this, 0 stars. Julie Garwood and Anne Flosnik (as she read in this book,) combination? Meh! Probably NOT.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Honor's Splendour?

Man possibly dying of exposure, quiet, abused woman with dignity won't allow him to die, tries to save his feet the only way she could but that left her terribly vulnerable.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Anne Flosnik?

Someone with a real accent and less caffeine.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

Better narrator.

Any additional comments?

I went ahead and purchased this despite my misgivings because I read the story. Anne Flosnik's narration in this book made my want to beg her to give up smoking and let the poor dead animal die already. I believe we all have room for change, but, this narrator just should not be allowed NEAR a classic to kill it the way that she narrates. I love classics, I hated this version. Just as I hated so many other classics that are my favourites that she has killed through neglect in the Audible Library. If you are going to read professionally, make some effort and for goodness' sake LEARN HOW, please.

A Julie Garwood Classic

Garwood's classic books are always fun to listen to. Not a fan of abridged books, but it's still worth it. The narrator's voice is a little distracting. Not enough difference between her characters so it's easy to get confused. But not entirely off putting.

Just okay

Not much story line, a lot of sexual scenes. Warriors in that time period, I don’t believe acted in such a manor. Other novels from this time period were better by far. Therefore, sorry, just not Julie’s best.
