Publisher's summary

Suspended from the Elite for committing a murder she can't remember, Amber Morgan finds herself at risk of being exposed as a Sorceress. The only person she can trust is Nic, but whenever she gets too close to him, she risks being exposed in other ways. With demonic attacks occurring across the city and the body of a witch hunter turning up in an alley, Amber takes on a new case which means fighting personal demons as well as the ones that want to eat her heart and wear her skin like a cheap suit. When the witch hunter case gets too hot, Amber is forced to walk the line between Heaven and Hell, risking her life and soul in the process. Honestly, who does a girl have to kill to stay alive around here?

grim rites the shadow sorceress

I loved the shadow sorceress series my only complaint I would have liked to see more progression of the characters especially our herione Amber Morgan. I would have liked see her learn to manipulate her powers better and stop being a whining brat. Everything was not her fault as they say shit happens plus the storys are too short I feel like I am. reading novellas. as opposed to a complete stand alone book other than that. the story is good as far as it goes. and the narrator was lovely. I give each book a. 3.95 out of 500 pretty fast paced storyline

3 strikes and it is a miss!

The good thing, maybe the best thing is the length of the book. I read books one and two. Unfortunately, our protagonist has not evolved at all. The story is basically a monologue. When Amber is faced with situations, she will go over the pros and cons of each situation with her having blame for each.

After three books Amber, still does not know who she is not how to use her magic. As readers, we just have to hope that when she attempts something it will work. This story centers around demon hunters returning. Their primary focus is killing shadow witches. The conflict with this hunter, it is Nic’s lost assumed dead brother. Demon hunters are religious fanatics who feel they imbued with the power of God to smite witches.

A friend of Amber’s has an issue, well she has been possessed. She calls Amber for help. When Amber finds her, she knows something is not right with her, but cannot identify what is the problem. This demon mark, which hides her shadow witchery from hunters, does respond to her friend’s alienness. But our girl Amber is clueless.

From the previous books we that her mother, a white witch, had previously altered her memories and masked her real powers. We discover that Amber has a half-sister, by her demon daddy, who is really bad and powerful. Since she has made an appearance, her sister has been trying to take her powers.

Many series give you a minimum background information of the previous books. I would have found that useful. The significance of being a shadow witch, the demon mark or demon hunters is not reviewed. For me it left to many questions.
