Publisher's summary

Darkness can't always be beaten by the light. Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.

Amber Morgan is a rookie in The Elite, an organization tasked with the elimination of rogue preternatural beings in King City. But she has a secret. She's a witch and only joined The Elite to settle a personal score.

Her first case is supposed to be the routine investigation of a rogue vampire, but it soon becomes clear that dark forces are at work, darker than anything the team has dealt with in the past.

When an irritatingly sexy Hunter offers to help, Amber wants to say hell no! The last thing she needs is another distraction, even if he is sin personified. But with the fate of a missing child at stake and a possible connection between the case and her past, how can she refuse?

Not sure yet

This story is more like an outline that needs to be developed more. I'm hoping the plot , characters and world building are developed more in the next book.

First and last book in this series for me.

Although I managed to finish this novel I did not enjoy it. Mainly my dislike grew from the heroine who I just didn’t warm to. I found her a bit whiny and very inconsistent in her actions and thoughts. I found myself wishing her opponents would kill her just to end the book.

Enjoyable new series - needs a new editor

Amber is a rookie Elite officer who joined the force for a personal vendetta. She also has a secret, which she is not good at keeping. There are two males, Graham, her partner a former police officer and an Elite officer; Nick a hunter of paranormal beings. Each of the characters has their own agenda, which come together in the end.

Amber is a strong character, which becomes apparent as the story progress. There were lose threads left in the book. They are not crucial but they bugged me. How did she find her athame to use after the fire? How did she miss the connection with her visit with the fairy and her powers? Why did they take Christina as a conduit? Why was there a pentagram in Christina's room? What was the relationship with Christina mother and the vampire? Why is her (Amber's) magic different than her mother's? What accounts for the changes in vampires habits? What about the new zombies/non-zombies or whatever? How did Lilly get away from the demon? Her apartment, bedroom actually, has a raging fire and she can still find cloths in the closet?

It is for these unanswered questions that I did not rate it higher. But the book has enough merit that I will buy the next book. This really needs a better editor. If the second one is as bad, I will not read the third.
