Publisher's summary

First published by brothers Wilhelm and Jacob Grimm in 1812 as a collection of retold Germanic folk stories, this collection of such well-known fairytales as "Rapunzel" and "Sleeping Beauty" transports listeners to a realm where "Once upon a time" often ends up "happily ever after"…and where giants, princesses, kings, and fairies pursue power, find true love, have all sorts of magical adventures — and in the process reveal multi-faceted truths about human nature.

Robin Field Excellent!

Would you consider the audio edition of Grimm's Fairy Tales to be better than the print version?

Our 6 year old has listened to this audiobook at least 5 times, and her favorite stories even more. I am ecstatic to see Robin Field narrates many other children's books as well. He does a variety of voices with so much talent. His excellent narration gives a special quality to the stories, making our child want to listen to them over and over again.

Love the morals of the stories.

There Must be Many More than what is here

I got this book based on some obvious miconceptions I had about the Grimm Fairy taies. I thought they were dark stories with well thought out lessons that were intended to teach children how to survive and how to act. The pop culture references of shows like Grimm, books like Moon Called by Patrica Briggs where they speak of the Fey (creature that I thaought were characters pulled from the Grimm Fairy Tales), and others lead me to beleive in something much more dark and neferious that what I found.

I believe in fact there were many lessons there but as so often happens they are written for a time that is so far of from the way we live today that the stories have lost their relavence.

I also expect I was gonna have to visualize monsters of all sorts. All the monsters in these tales wear human masks and are influenced by jelousy, hate, and selfishness. The tales paint in black and white and with lots of repetition. Both of which are great characteristics for teaching children but they repeat the same themes so often that they become motonous in there voice and you loose interest.

All in all the stories are outdated and somewhat weak by todays standards. If you are looking for research I would recommend them but there is on other reason or listen to these tales.

Grimms: An all time classic

Grimms fairy tales is wonderfully narrated, and a great choice of books for childrn, since many of the new modern classics seem to have overshadowed them The kids still gather when played

One of the most enjoyable audible books ever!

Would you consider the audio edition of Grimm's Fairy Tales to be better than the print version?

Yes, It brought it alive in such a fun way

What did you like best about this story?

It's a collection of stories; most of which I didn't know.

Have you listened to any of Robin Field’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Robin Field's narration was the best I've ever heard in all of my audible books. I walk a great deal and I listen to audio books when I walk. I burst out laughing so many times listening to cadre of characters and voices.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Definitely made me laugh.

Any additional comments?

It was VERY enjoyable.

Sorry, needs to be re-recorded.

What disappointed you about Grimm's Fairy Tales?

The classics were all there, however the voice was too "airy" and recorded very much quieter than other Audible books. (a mistake for a children's book)

Would you be willing to try another book from Brothers Grimm? Why or why not?

One needs to keep in mind, these are deep fairy tales with hard lessons. More suited for older gradeschool - middleschoolers.

Only 20% of all the Grimm stories

There are only 42 of the 211 Grim stories in this audio book. Some of the traditional ones that everyone is used to hearing from snow white to sleeping beauty, but with only 20% of them recorded, it isn't complete and if you are looking for the complete stories this isn't it. The reader does a great job and really works hard at breaking out different voices for women, girls, children, dwarves, giants, large and small animals. So this is a great starting point.
