About this listen

Own things, don't run things. This is the secret to living your American Dream. These days, everyone seems to have a big idea that could be leveraged into a business. But few understand what it takes to build something of lasting value. In Grit It Done, serial entrepreneur Reid Tileston shares the simple but practical path to building generational wealth through entrepreneurial business ownership.

Instead of imagining what life could be, what if you actually built it? Becoming an entrepreneurial business owner (EBO) is a high-impact way to achieve your biggest, most audacious dreams while minimizing personal and financial risk. It doesn't take a big idea to build a business. All it takes is a willingness to do hard things.

You don't have to reinvent the wheel. There is, in fact, a tried-and-true method to maximizing your chances of entrepreneurial success, and it doesn't look like another Shark Tank story. With a little grit and the right roadmap, you can achieve the autonomy you long for while creating a life of purpose and meaning for yourself and others.

This book outlines the steps it takes to achieve true freedom and build a business that works for you instead of you having to work for it. It won't be easy, but it will be worth it.

Fantastically written, insightful look into ETA

Reid is a great storyteller and businessperson and it comes through so clearly in Grit it Done. I’ve done a self-funded search acquisition and run a business for years but was still taking lots of notes from the great insights he shares here. Highly recommend!

This book has been amazing! It’s a great guide to beginning your journey as a small business or franchise owner. There are plenty of hidden gems and it’s well worth the read. It is a well rounded guide to becoming an EBO giving lots of sound business advice but also sprinkling in some great life advice.

If you are not all in you are in the way

I like books that are read by the author so bonus points for that. A strong primer of what it is like to buy, own and operate a small business. A number of entertaining stories and motivational quotes in there as well including the gem if you are not all in you are in the way! Frames the world of small business as a people centered adventure which stands in contrast to a lot of the other business and entrepreneurship literature out there. A good listen for those who are considering ownership, current owners, or really anyone that is looking for entertaining stories and a motivational shot in the arm.

A clear path to buying a business

Loved Reid’s realistic roadmap to what it takes to become an entrepreneurial business owner. Most people find excuses to not pursuing business ownership… Reid takes those excuses and eats them for breakfast!

Great insights from a success story

I am a serial entrepreneur who has started 10 businesses in 10 years. But I’ve never been an entrepreneurial business owner as Ried describes. I learned a lot from his experiences and advice. I’ll be applying these in my own business practices. I am motivated to pursue entrepreneurial business ownership, more than ever!

Practical focus on automation, first principles and sweat equity.

Reid does a masterful job weaving his personal story of climbing the world’s tallest staircase with amassing his own list of notable acquisitions and exits. He explains the difference between a business owner and an entrepreneurial business owner (EBO) as to mindset and hard work. While I think there is more room for dialogue and negotiations than he allows for in M&A generally, I applaud his encouragement to automate and systemize certain simple processes and base that system on principles of hard work aided by strategy and an exceeding positive attitude - all of which are characteristics that the author himself embodies.
