Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Alan Dershowitz, one of America’s most respected legal scholars, proves - with incontrovertible evidence - that he is entirely innocent of the sexual misconduct accusations against him, while suggesting a roadmap for how such allegations should truly be handled in a just society.

Alan Dershowitz has been called “one of the most prominent and consistent defenders of civil liberties in America” by Politico and “the nation’s most peripatetic civil liberties lawyer and one of its most distinguished defenders of individual rights” by Newsweek. Yet he has come under intense criticism for applying those same principles, and his famed “shoe-on-the-other-foot test”, to those accused of sexual misconduct.

In Guilt by Accusation, Dershowitz provides an in-depth analysis of the false accusations against him, alongside a full presentation of the exculpatory evidence that proves his account, including emails from his accuser and an admission of his innocence from her lawyer, David Boies. Additionally, he examines current attitudes toward accusations of sexual misconduct, which are today, in the age of #MeToo, accepted as implicit truth without giving the accused a fair chance to defend themselves and their innocence, and suggests possible pathways back to a society and legal system in which due process is respected above public opinion and the whims of social media mobs.

This book is Alan Dershowitz’s plea for fairness for both accuser and accused, his principled stand for due process no matter the allegation, and his compelling assertion of his own innocence. It is essential reading for anyone who wants to know the inside story behind the accusations against him or who cares about the current societal debate over how we should handle accusations of sexual misconduct.

The #MeToo movement has generally been a force for good, but as with many good movements, it is being exploited by some bad people for personal profit. Supporters of the #MeToo movement must not allow false accusers to hurt real victims by hiding behind its virtuous shield, turning it into an exploitive sword against innocent people.

The Vendetta

This book shows how at the highest level a smear campaign has no way to address it firmly in the law.
There is a growing trend to take an outright lie, and repeat it so many times, adding more outright lies to bolster the claim, recruit others either by financial rewards or by finding out something they can use for blackmail. Social media gives the means to do this rapidly.

To watch a tragedy unfold and destroy a person, so convincingly (I hate to call it that because a sensible person in real time would not be convinced) that even associating with the accused becomes risky. A celebrity was just taken off his planned tour, because these vultures joined forces and waged a concerted effort to spam their websites with complaints so vulgar the venues couldn't keep the agreements. Anyone who defended him was ridiculed and made to appear as a rape apologist.

Just as with any good movement the #metoo movement has now been discovered by those who will exploit it. I have to wonder if the expression #metoo (one I associate with children who see one person getting attention all decide they will find a way to get that attention for themselves) might have been the wrong hashtag.

The imposters are already doing damage to real victims.

Great insight

This book was a great insight into the personal and legal struggles of falsely accused persons. I’ve learned a lot from this read. It’s presentation as well as organization was well constructed. The only thing I wanted more of was insight into the emotional and psychological effects that falsely acclaimed persons go through. Otherwise, phenomenal!!!

It could happen to you.

when I ordered the book, I thought it dealt with President Trump. I was shocked to hear what was happening to Professor Dershowitz.

Not what was expected, Mostly personal story.

I anticipated it would be an in depth examination of the phenomenon, Instead it was mostly a run on first hand account to the point it became hard to follow. The book could have been half as long and still have more information, Like other cases and defenses for example.

Interesting information

I learned a lot from this book. Lots of important details that aren't reported in the news.
I think that the author is a little too close to the subject and the story and the performance could have benefited from the use of third parties.

Lame.

I was looking for ways to fight false accusations which are rampant in our post #metoo society and I got an earful from a man just rambling on about his own case and his own achievements and how great he is. Who cares! I don’t care how you met Epstein. I care that my step father has been wrongfully convicted on made up lies from 30 years ago with no proof and still no one would believe him. Lame.

Hidden Agenda

The book is about an accusation of Alan himself. Not how his work with others but his POV on his on innocence.
Boring.
