It was the end of World War II. FDR's New Deal had redefined American politics. Taxes were at an all-time high. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had created a fear of total annihilation. The rise of secret government agencies and sanctions on business had many watching their backs. America's sense of freedom was diminishing... and many were desperate to take that freedom back.

Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Story
Conquering dungeons and using them to grow has long been the most efficient way to become a powerful adventurer. The only thing keeping the process from being easy is the Beasts that inhabit these places. Questions plague those entering this particular place of power: Where do the ‘rewards’ of weapons, armor, and heavy gold coins come from? Why is a fluffy bunny charging at me? For abyss-sake, why are there so many monsters? Cal has all of the answers to these age-old questions for a very simple reason. He is a Dungeon Core, a soul forced against his will into a magical stone.

They tried to destroy our planets. Our way of life. They tried to send us into extinction. But we, the Coalition, fought them and won. That was a decade ago. They’re known as the Host: a cabal of aliens seeking to dominate our sector of space. And they’re back - with help from a powerful new enemy. We’re outnumbered and unprepared. But there is hope. An ancient race of long-dead but technologically advanced aliens called the Navigators have a ship called the Blackstar that could potentially turn the tide. That is if I, Kai Locke, a humble ship racer, can find it and learn how to harness its power in time.

They're all gone. We remember them like yesterday: pieces of our stolen heritage. Things like NASA. Football. Parades and pies. Good things, comfortable things. We remember a time when we were alone in the universe, safe and oblivious. But it's all gone now. We called them the Telestines, and in the face of their ruthless invasion we were powerless. By 2040, all the world's governments and militaries had fallen, and the remnants of humanity exiled to the solar system. Geoff and his friends live in Phocaea, a distant asteroid colony on the Solar System's frontier. They're your basic high-spirited young adults, enjoying such pastimes as hacking matter compilers to produce dancing skeletons that prance through the low-gee communal areas, using their rocket-bikes to salvage methane ice shrapnel that flies away when the colony brings in a big (and vital) rock of the stuff, and figuring out how to avoid the ubiquitous surveillance motes.

Narrator
It took a lot of getting used to her narration, maybe the narrator for battle born would’ve been better.

Good Story.
I enjoyed it overall, the narrator I feel didn't do the best job for the alien species but absolutely nailed it to perfection with the humans.
As for the Author, only one piece of it annoyed me more than anything. (spoiler) they get their Forerunner AI back(Little Bit) it is confirmed that it is the AI in the chip, but then nothing. The Author never reintroduces Little Bit as a character after Little Bit is taken. At the end, the characters all forget about Little Bit on the chip and accept someone else as their new AI. That bothered me if only a "Little Bit."

Another amazing addition to the trilogy!
Best- Spark using a humanoid body!
Worst- narrator sounded like she was forcing out her last breath, at the end of every sentence. It sounded unnatural and forced. I did appreciate the different voices she used. I also think she pronounced the names wrong of the protagonist, and Sparks human name.

Another Great Story
SPOILERS!!!
I have fallen out of love the Halo games many years ago, but one thing that always brings me back is the lore, and this book has tons of it.
I am glad they finally gave us a third story of the daughter of Sgt. Forge, and also brought back a beloved character in 343 Guilty Spark after we last heard of his whereabouts.
this story had a lot of things that I was looking forward to, and exceeded my expectations. The games might let me down over and over again, but I have yet to be let down by the novels. Maybe that's just my bias for lore and knowledge, but just take that with a grain of salt.
