About this listen

Experience Star Wars: A New Hope from a whole new point of view.

On May 25, 1977, the world was introduced to Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, C-3PO, R2-D2, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, and a galaxy full of possibilities. In honor of the 40th anniversary, more than 40 contributors lend their vision to this retelling of Star Wars. Each of the 40 short stories reimagines a moment from the original film, but through the eyes of a supporting character. From a Certain Point of View features contributions by best-selling authors, trendsetting artists, and treasured voices from the literary history of Star Wars:

  • Gary Whitta bridges the gap from Rogue One to A New Hope through the eyes of Captain Antilles.
  • Aunt Beru finds her voice in an intimate character study by Meg Cabot.
  • Nnedi Okorofor brings dignity and depth to a most unlikely character: the monster in the trash compactor.
  • Pablo Hidalgo provides a chilling glimpse inside the mind of Grand Moff Tarkin.
  • Pierce Brown chronicles Biggs Darklighter's final flight during the Rebellion's harrowing attack on the Death Star.
  • Wil Wheaton spins a poignant tale of the rebels left behind on Yavin.

Plus 34 more hilarious, heartbreaking, and astonishing tales from Ben Acker, Renée Ahdieh, Tom Angleberger, Ben Blacker, Jeffrey Brown, Rae Carson, Adam Christopher, Zoraida Córdova, Delilah S. Dawson, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Paul Dini, Ian Doescher, Ashley Eckstein, Matt Fraction, Alexander Freed, Jason Fry, Kieron Gillen, Christie Golden, Claudia Gray, E. K. Johnston, Paul S. A New View of A New Hope

What a fantastic collection of stories. Take a bunch of side characters who were bit parts in the original Star Wars movie and give them a story to tell. You remember those guys in the band playing the Cantina? Yeah, let's tell their story. Remember that little M1C6 droid who Chewbacca scared on the Death Star? Yeah, he has a story. How about the stormtrooper who Obi Wan used his Jedi mind powers to fool into believing that C3PO and R2D2 weren't the droids they were looking for? Fantastic continuation!
There are stories in here from a ton of angles, including Lando, Yoda, Obi Wan, and Mon Mothra, as well as that red R5 unit who blew up at Uncle Owen's farm and the monster in the trash room. These stories fill out a universe so well fleshed out already. Even things like the stormtrooper bopping his head on the door make sense now.
And the voices. Oh, the voices are so great. This book is just about the perfect book. What a great anthology of the Star Wars Universe's lesser known characters. I not only highly recommend this one but I, myself, will be listening to it several more times in the future.I have a new hope that they will do a project like this for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi in short order.

True must for fans!

Remember some of the fringe characters you saw in Episode IV? This audio & book brings them to life! You find about so many from just before the movie started up to after the movie ended with so many fill ins for a lot of characters. If you are a fan, you'll love this!

interesting

so, it bounces around a lot, and covers a few of the same scenes from ANH from different angles. lots of random and needless SJW, and PC shit pushed thru that add no substance to their actual story. a ton of needless information. it was a great distraction book in between books.

Every Star Wars fan MUST purchase this audiobook!

If you could sum up From a Certain Point of View (Star Wars) in three words, what would they be?

Fantastic, exciting, AWESOME!!!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I sat with my mouth open throughout this audiobook. I was too mesmerized to do anything else! The creative back stories of the selected Star Wars supportive characters added a 'flavor' that is true to the original Episode IV. Each of the stories had to have been written by an authentic Star Wars fan as all are truly mind-blowing! And then there is the fact that each story was narrated by a different reader and each seem to be a 'balls-to-bones' Star Wars fans given how well they told their 'assigned' story, how could Audible possibly get any better?

Any additional comments?

This is an audiobook joy and thrill for any Star Wars fan. I'm sure to earn the 'Repeat Listener' badge for this one.

40 years point of view

I did not love this book. There were stories that were to long that just got boring. Others were good but not great. I don't think this book needed 40 stories to tell the in between the lines of what happened from Episode IV. As usually the voice acting was good but couldn't they have used more than one actor in each story.

Really entertaining.

I'm a Star Wars fan since I saw episode IV in 1977. A lot of back stories, I loved most of them, but a few I struggled to get through. Worth a point that's for sure.

Something for everyone.

I have mixed feelings about this book. Overall it was pretty good. It had some of my favorite narrators narrating the different stories, which was refreshing. I enjoyed about a third of the book, the rest was hard to get through. I actually stopped listening to it, about half way through the book, for a couple of weeks because it was really getting hard to listen to. The stories didn’t interest me, or were too repetitive in a certain time period. I eventually came back to it and as I continued it got better. I like the idea of the book and get what they were doing, and I respect that. There is something for everyone in it and I appreciate that as well.

Absolutely fabulous addition to the Star Wars universe!

This is one of the best Star Wars books I have had the pleasure of listening to in a long time. There are so many good laugh out loud moments in a lot of the stories and I think the best ones are the ones from tattooine. Can’t recommend this book enough! A must read/listen!
