About this listen

Raphael

We met once two years ago — a few awful moments I’d rather forget — but he’s lived in my head ever since. Lee Jaehyun. K-pop idol and star of every filthy fantasy I have these days.

I should be thinking about the fact we just won our first Grammy, I should be focussing on our next album. I should be planning my wedding. But I’m not; I’m thinking about him. About what his mouth might taste like and what that body might look like under those carefully curated clothes. About how he might feel in my arms and what my name might sound like from his mouth when he’s turned on.

I’m not sure what this is; the near obsession I have with this guy, but it’s burrowed itself deep and refuses to give an inch. I’ll go insane if I can’t have him just once. Once to scratch the itch, douse the flames.

Except, it turns out once isn’t enough, and it’s not dousing the flames it’s striking a match and I’m about to blow my entire life up.

Jaehyun

Raphael Scott is going to break my heart.

He’s an American rockstar, engaged to be married, and straight. He’ll get tired of whatever this is soon enough. Then he’ll go back to his beautiful actress girlfriend and I’ll be alone again. I’m fine with that.

But it doesn’t mean I won’t take what he’s offering me right now. His shining American smile, his beautiful open heart, the desperate kisses he presses into my skin.

No, Raphael Scott won’t break me, nothing can. I’ve fortified myself against this sort of thing. My body, my art; all of it is armor. This soft American boy has no hope on earth of breaking it.

Hamartia is an opposites-attract, bisexual awakening, Rockstar x K-pop idol mm romance featuring sex, drugs, and rock and roll… and some K-pop. It features themes of a mature nature.

Emotionally charged! Beautiful narration!

This book consumed me. It was emotionally charged… I LOVED it.
It gave me some anxiety, I wanted so bad to read the ending but I persevered and it was 100% worth it.

I love how the majority of chapters were Raphael’s POV which made Jaehyun even more enigmatic and every time it was his POV I would be extra focused because I needed to know everything about his feelings.
I read on kindle with Audio as well and narration is chefs kiss! Beautiful! Amazing!!! Fantastic!!! Zachary Zaba voiced both Rapha and Jae so so well, the Korean words were beautifully pronounced and I used Chat GPT to translate them, I was soooo invested in everything interesting mentioned in the book.

I loved the ending, I love how obsessed Rapha was with Jae, the language barrier was so endearing and I love how they both agreed to communicate clearly with each other.

An INCREDIBLE listening experience! 😍

WOW! Just...WOW. I was worried about this book coming to audio because I wasn't sure that any narrator could pull off the perfect voice for precious Jae...but Zachary Zaba delivered! Zachary is a new-to-me narrator, and I'm so impressed with his distinct voices for both Jae and Rapha, and his range and variety for the many side characters in this book. Hamartia is such a beautiful tale somehow made even MORE beautiful by this audio. Hearing these guys' voices really makes them seem real! This is a MUST listen. Well done Zachary and Scarlett on bringing this beautiful story to life!

Most excellent listen!

This one really got me. Everything about it. I was so sad when it ended. It had all the feels. I became deeply invested in all the characters. When it starts out, the sound is weird because it begins as an interview. Don’t let that deter you. It’s short-lived, and then it opens up to beautiful narration. I laughed, I cried, I was moved time and time again. It drew me in and did not let me go until it was over. A very good book indeed!

Jae & Rapha are everything! Adored this story

It’s been a while since 2 characters have moved me like this. Raphael became quietly obsessed with Jaehyun. So much so that he let it consume him. Eventually his obsession became his reality. Jaehyun’s world was very different from Raphael’s. And he was so scared to let Raphael in. But I’m so glad he did. They had so many hurdles to overcome together. I can’t get them and their story out of my head!! I need more. Zachary Zaba did an amazing job narrating both Rapha & Jae.

Loved this narration (and you get a bonus chapter!). I read the book and loved it so much I had to listen to the audio version. It did not disappoint.

Rapha and Jae

I was hesitant to read this when I saw the word k-pop star in the description because it sounded like a fanfic and I don't really read those. But I gave it a try after I saw edits on booktok because the quotes sounded so good. Thank goodness I decided to give it a chance because wow what a surprise! It was so good I finished it overnight. Rapha's life altering moment felt so real that I felt like I was changing with him. His POV is so immersive that I felt like I was obsessed with Jae too.

Since this is an American x Korean story, there are Korean dialogues and phrases in here too. And this is where it gets a bit tricky. I speak and read Korean. And reading romanizations of korean words had me struggling. I couldn't figure out the words. And this problem got even more apparent in the audiobook. There were words that the narrator was able to pull off. But most parts were butchered. That was a disappointment for me but not enough to dislike the audiobook. I still enjoyed it so much. There was something aboutI the narrator's tone which felt like we were in the same room and he's telling me the story face to face. It felt so personal.

Overall a wonderful book. Aside from my personal struggle with the Korean parts, it's still a 5 star read for me.
