About this listen

Betsy is still new enough to Excelsior, Minnesota, to not know a scandal when she causes one. So, when she hires Foster Johns to fix her roof, the resulting uproar has her needled.

The whole town has pinned a five-year-old unsolved double murder on him. Betsey believes Johns when he says he isn't guilty. But she'll have to use every stitch of her sleuthing skills to tie up all the loose ends that will prove his innocence once and for all.

Unnecessary ghost stories

I usually don’t mind the different scenarios involved each of the mysteries. They were interesting but telling ghost stories are so unnecessary and a waste of time. There were no interesting information that you could gain from it in this story and solving the mystery took too long. I didn’t like this book as much as I did the others.

Between books, I forget

The characters and stories are engaging and clever. The needlecraft stuff is interesting. The narrator… has rarely if ever heard English spoken aloud. (I grew up in the Midwest, so it’s not that!)

another fun story

Betsy finds herself in a tough spot when she finds out that the contractor (Foster John) she's hired to fix her roof is believed by everyone in town to be guilty of two murders. Foster John asks Betsy to prove that he isn't a killer.

The best part of this book is probably that we get to see more about Betsy's life. The mystery isn't bad but felt more like an excuse to write more about Betsy & her friends.

I must admit that I find hearing about Betsy & Crewel World to be plenty entertaining even without a mystery.

Roof with a Leak and an Alibi that's Weak

When Betsey contracts Foster Johns to have the roof fixed at Crewel World, her needlecraft shop, she has no idea that Foster Johns has a bad reputation in Excelsior, Minnesota. But when he shows up for his pay after the roof passes inspection, the Monday Bunch is downright rude to Foster Johns and Betsey is flabbergasted at their behavior. After he leaves, she confronts them about how rude they were and they inform her that he's a killer. 😨 So how is it that he's free to walk around conducting business? They tell her that Foster killed Angela and Paul Schmitt five years ago, and that Detective Mike Malloy botched the case, and had to let him go . . .and that Foster had been having a love affair with Angela. A few days later, Foster returns and asks for Betsey's help in clearing his name. She is reluctant to get involved, but after thinking it over, she agrees, telling Foster that she will not protect him if he's guilty. Its interesting how Betsey investigates and learns about all that had happened five years earlier. I love this series. I love the needlework, the people in the stories, and how she eventually gets to the root of the issues, pointing out the smallest of things that even the detectives miss. 😊 A fun listen.

Good story, however there seems to be an agenda for the writer.

The story overall is good. I don't understand why the author feels the need to make some characters gay when their sexual preference had absolutely no bearing on the story.
