About this listen

The only things in Jersey Kincaid's world that she has time for are keeping her grades up so that she doesn't lose her scholarship to South Texas University, playing the bass in her band, The Prototype, and satisfying her coffee addiction. Oh, and the occasional random hook-up she indulges in to pass the time.

Love? Eh, not so much. Save that crap for a Katherine Heigl or Natalie Portman movie.

Jersey's seen enough in life (courtesy of her Pops) to realize that undying romance is nothing more than a myth used to sell books and movie tickets. As she knows too well, the only thing inevitable in life is death - love is definitely not promised.

That's why when Jersey meets Isaiah "Zay" Broussard, with his soulful gray eyes, quick wit, and easy charm, she's determined to remain aloof. She doesn't have time to get sidetracked by fleeting fantasies, even if she does feel an unexplainable connection to Zay she's never experienced before.

But when his interest in her only seems to intensify, despite her attempts to brush him off, she gets to see a side of him and herself she didn't expect....

This book was beautifully written... BUT...

Happiness in Jersey was a beautifully written book! There is no denying the skill level of Jacinta Howard! The way her words painted such vivid depictions were simply epic. I imagined every scene as if it were a movie in my mind.

However, personally, this book was not for me. I realized well into the book that I am past reading/listening to teenage love stories. And that's what Zay and Jersey was; an emotional teenage love. So, by halfway through the book I was over the back and forth and constant push and pull. It felt too childish to me. However, being as though they were only Sophomores in college, I completely understood the direction of their love struggles. Add that to the fact that Jersey was mentally jacked up due to childhood trauma, and you got a full dose of young, crazy and in love. And that's exactly how love can be in that stage of life. So in that regard, this book did exactly what it was supposed to do. I just realized it wasn't exactly for me.

Narration: AMAZING! Wesleigh Siobhan kills everything she touches! I will listen to anything she narrates.

Cute College Love Story

It was a cute story. I got mad a few times at Jersey but she got herself together in the end.

A beautifully written love story

I love this story and the way Zay loved Jersey. It is a beautiful story with ups and downs about young people and everything that should have destroyed them and how they overcame it.
Beautifully written and beautifully read!!!

Not the best. Great Narrator!

I'd been hearing about this Prototype series and thought I'd take a listen because you can't go wrong with the Narrator Wesleigh Siobhan. But this storyline about college students falling in love is too young for my taste and there was too much whining about the character Jersey's issues. I mean I felt bad for her, but dang!!!
Anyway, I'm committed to the series and will see it thru, I just hope it gets better. Right now, Ms. Wesleigh is carrying this book for me .

The perfect start

This is my first book by JC. I'm a new fan. The reviews were a little all over the place for me but I knew with Wesleigh narrating this book could only go up. this book is a slow burn but I'm sure it's just the perfect lay up for that show stopping slam dunk. It set's the stage for me. You do have to remind yourself that Jersey is a college student and has gone through a lot so wanting to shake her came to a hault. I had to remember when I was in college her age trying to find myself with a whole set of different problems. if you are looking for a fast pace traditional college love story this book is not for you. But if you want to experience a young love that has come together when two people least expected with the common thread of loss of love ones this is it. It cute, funny, ho4, sad and rewarding all wrapped together.

Mzbugg

Excellent story loved the complexity of Jersey and how Zay loved her through her pain, confusion and overall neglect and desire for love. Her dad was a coward who blamed a child for a tragedy she had nothing to do with all because he wasn't brave enough to take responsibility. Zay had his own demons but was loved enough to get through it and be a mature loving protective man. Jersey had great friends, she was smart and a hard worker but her lack of love how to give it and receive it almost destroyed her. This is an excellent story about succeeding in spite of and how being truly loved can help achieve that. About to read book #2

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

I love this storyline from beginning to end. I feel like every young girl needs to read this book. Even if its to better understand her friends. Zay is an old soul and way beyond his years when it comes to patience. I can’t wait to dive into the other characters. Jacinta Howard you are one of my new favs. Please keep them coming. Wesleigh Siobhan you always come through, your voice brings story’s to life.
