About this listen

I fake laugh every time I think about how ironic it is to be a commitment-phobe relationship therapist who is also the daughter of two world-renowned marriage and family counselors. Seriously, it's comical!

Want to know how I messed up my life? Getting arrested for stealing a priceless artifact for a tearful client.

Want to know what my biggest problem is? Spending my life teaching women how to break relationships when all I want to do is make a relationship—with him.

Want to know what that makes me? The Break-Up Expert who is questioning everything I thought I knew.

How much this man exudes the best of Black Love 😍❤️❤️❤️

Wonderful story that gave what I love….not too much drama, reflection of family ties, fun loving friendships and sexy love scenes that are explicitly detailed 😁

Overcrowded storyline and too many characters

It's Not Me, It’s You by Elle Wright follows the unconventional love story of Blake and Lennox. Blake, a commitment-phobic relationship therapist, and Lennox, a tenure-track college professor, are brought together under unusual circumstances. The story kicks off when Blake’s niece pleads with her to help a classmate, Dori, who claims her professor dumped her and stole a valuable family painting. Blake, acting on impulse and Dori's seemingly dire plight, breaks into the professor’s home to retrieve the painting, only to discover she’s been duped. Dori isn’t a victim but rather an obsessed liar.

This twist introduces Lennox, the professor in question, who realizes Blake is the intriguing woman he briefly encountered at a wedding. At the time, he refrained from approaching her because he was with a date. Sparks reignite when their paths cross again, and the two begin a relationship. However, Blake’s deep-seated fear of commitment and her knack for self-sabotage threaten to derail their budding romance.

Elle Wright, known for her engaging storytelling, delivers a novel that’s part romance, part family drama. While Blake and Lennox’s love story takes center stage, much of the narrative is devoted to introducing a sprawling cast of characters—primarily their siblings—clearly setting the stage for future books in the series. Unfortunately, the limited six-hour audiobook format leaves many characters and subplots underdeveloped, diluting the focus on Blake and Lennox.

The audiobook experience is another consideration. While the story has its charm, the narrator’s voice detracts from the experience, making it harder to immerse yourself fully. For this reason, readers might prefer the print or e-book version over the Audible format.

Overall, Elle Wright’s talent shines through, but the overcrowded storyline and uneven pacing hold this novel back. Despite its flaws, it’s a promising start to a series that will likely improve as the characters and their stories are explored in more depth. If you’re a fan of Wright’s work, this book might still be worth your time. For now, I’m giving it 4 out of 5 stars and keeping an open mind about the series’ future installments.

The story was better than the narration.

l have listened to other books narrated by both Leon Nixon and Adenrele Ojo...with Leon he either hits or he doesn't...with this particular character.. l think he hit...his laid back voice fit Lennox...as for Adenrele Ojo, this one was a total miss for me... it was hard for me to listen to Blake's voice...she sounded like a phone sex worker...it was wayyyyy too breathy and over the top. As for the storyline, It was ok.. l didn't love it...but l didn't hate it either. There seems to be a standard theme for these stories.. l feel like l am listening to the same story over and over again...the only names have been changed. Man and woman meet...like what they see...hang out for a minute...have sex..and a month later..they are in L.O.V.E

Get to know the Young Family

This was a great start to the series. I'm a fan of the narrator Adenrele, so this author is new to me. I'm looking forward to the re#t of the series.

slow burn, but worth the listen !

This author is new to me, but I'm a fan of Adenrele Ojo, so it piqued my interest. It was an easy listen, but it was missing that spark! Lean Nixon is cool, but he is hit or miss for me. I don't think he gave this book the energy this book needed. Loved the story. It was fresh, funny, romantic, and a little drama. I will definitely continue the series and add this author to my list.

Delimma

“It’s Not Me, It’s You - (Young In Love) - Book 1 was a mediocre read. Unfortunately, this book was unavailable on Kindle Unlimited but rather only available on the Audible platform. Hence my delimma🤦🏾‍♀️🥴‼️Because the female narrator was Adenrele Ojo🙄🥴. Sadly, Ms. Ojo performance was distracting & just aweful! Six hours was/is entirely to long to be subjected to her disingenuous depiction of the majority of the Young siblings & other characters. Why? She portray both the male & female characters in the book. Her voice & pitch was/is annoying 🤷🏾‍♀️‼️ However, I’m confused if not disappointed, Leon Nixon, inwhich he was listed as the principal narrator in “It's Not You, It's Me”, has much more experience, talent & was/is definitely capable of handling all of the male roles was under utilized. Baffled‼️Another waste 🥴🙄‼️
