About this listen

New York Times bestselling author Eloisa James returns to the Accidental Brides series with a romance about a forced marriage between a feisty heroine and a Scottish laird... neither of whom have plans to marry, let alone fall in love.

Desperate after her Season comes to a spectacularly disastrous end, the Honorable Miss Clara Vetry jumps into a carriage hired to take a housekeeper to Scotland.

The laird of Castle CaerLaven has no interest in a wife, especially a love match—but when Caelan sees his new housekeeper, he changes his mind. Marriage to a delectable bookworm strikes him as a perfect arrangement.

To his surprise, Clara refuses his proposal once…and again…yet again.

When her true identity is revealed, and they’re forced to marry, Caelan realizes he has a far more crucial challenge.

He finally has Clara’s hand—but how will he ever win her heart?

Eloisa James takes the reader a beautifully written episode about two characters in the Scottish Highlands.

Eloisa James has a genius touch in creating wonderfully believable characters, both female and male, in plausible historical settings, well described. An Eloisa James novel always provides a positive cathartic experience.

fantastic

I absolutely love all her books, and this is no exception, wonderful story line, and just enough spice to not make it ranchy

Fun and flirty!

I've listened to a majority of Eloisa James's novels and this is one of her best to date. I love both the heroine and the hero which is usually hard to say for most historical romance novels. I think this might be her most fun and lighthearted novel since the Duchess Quartet novels yet it was able to treat it's more serious subjects with respect.

Absolutely loved this book!!!!

I loved the two main characters and a lot of the supporting characters. Mary Jane Wells did an excellent job narrating as usual, but I have to give her extra praise for her Scottish accent, which was amazing! This novel was so many things, funny, witty, tender, hilarious, heartfelt, mysterious, steamy….

You have to read it!

Great Characters

This was a great story. Fun to listen to. The growth of the two lead characters kept my interest to the very end. Also the narrator is exceptional. Eloisa James is one of my favorite historical fiction authors.

Lovable characters

Two absolutely delightful protagonists, witty banter, and just enough swoon to keep me engaged from start to finish. Eloisa James does it again! And Mary Jane Wells? Pure magic. She brings the characters to life in a way that made me laugh out loud and tear up more than once. Highly recommend for anyone in need of a feel-good escape.
