About this listen

New York Times bestselling author Eloisa James returns to the Accidental Brides series with a romance about a forced marriage between a feisty heroine and a Scottish laird... neither of whom have plans to marry, let alone fall in love.

Desperate after her Season comes to a spectacularly disastrous end, the Honorable Miss Clara Vetry jumps into a carriage hired to take a housekeeper to Scotland.

The laird of Castle CaerLaven has no interest in a wife, especially a love match—but when Caelan sees his new housekeeper, he changes his mind. Marriage to a delectable bookworm strikes him as a perfect arrangement.

To his surprise, Clara refuses his proposal once…and again…yet again.

When her true identity is revealed, and they’re forced to marry, Caelan realizes he has a far more crucial challenge.

He finally has Clara’s hand—but how will he ever win her heart?

I absolutely loved this book. The characters are delightful and the story is sweet. This is not one of my top favorites ! The hero and heroine are strong, intelligent and fun to listen to. The story kept my interest the whole time. The details of the supporting characters were fun and felt authentic. The narrator was excellent ! She brought each character to live with their own accents and attitudes and emotions …. Masterfully done. Bravo !

Wow so delightful! A favorite for sure!

Sometimes the brogue was hard to understand. But the characters were delightful for the most part.

Eloisa James has a genius touch in creating wonderfully believable characters, both female and male, in plausible historical settings, well described. An Eloisa James novel always provides a positive cathartic experience.

Eloisa James takes the reader a beautifully written episode about two characters in the Scottish Highlands.

I loved the two main characters and a lot of the supporting characters. Mary Jane Wells did an excellent job narrating as usual, but I have to give her extra praise for her Scottish accent, which was amazing! This novel was so many things, funny, witty, tender, hilarious, heartfelt, mysterious, steamy….

You have to read it!

Absolutely loved this book!!!!

I've listened to a majority of Eloisa James's novels and this is one of her best to date. I love both the heroine and the hero which is usually hard to say for most historical romance novels. I think this might be her most fun and lighthearted novel since the Duchess Quartet novels yet it was able to treat it's more serious subjects with respect.

Fun and flirty!

Honestly, Mary Jane Wells is a Rock Star! Such a superb performance!

I love me an Eloisa James novel and I especially love the ones set in Scotland and Hardly A Gentleman is no exception!

Even though it’s unpopular, I’m an Instalove kind of girl and this story of two lonely souls finding their way to each other is just perfection!

Hilarious and Heartwarming!
