About this listen

Two eccentric orphans bring together a grumpy viscount and the free-spirited heroine who steals his heart in the first novel in Eloisa James’s new Accidental Brides series, in which haughty aristocrats find themselves married to the wrong women.

He wants a nanny, not a bride…

Suddenly guardian to twins, Viscount Dominic Kelbourne is luckily betrothed to a suitable lady—until she elopes. With no time to woo, Dominic decides to marry his fiancée’s unconventional sister. Torie isn’t perfect, but their kisses are so passionate that society thinks he’s actually chosen her.

She wants to marry for love…

Torie has never been able to make sense of words on a page, so she has turned her talents to art. She longs for a man who values her as she is… but marries for the sake of the twins. She doubts Dominic is capable of love, let alone respect, but as their heated debates turn into something more, Torie begins to imagine a life as a wife, not a nanny.

But when the arrogant viscount finds that his viscountess has stolen his heart, he’ll have to give all he has to win her love.

Excellent narrator and story

Superb narrator enhances this extremely well-written story. Delightful heroine with a loving heart and brave cheerfulness in the face of society's scorn and verbal cruelty. Memorable twins whose frank comments and unabashed questions are hysterically funny.

Top 5 books of the year

I read 400 books a year and those one is among the best. Loved so much! Mary Jane Wells is a revelation as well. Eloisa James did her thing on this one!

I reserve ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for ones like this!

I absolutely loved this audiobook! I enjoyed every second. I laughed out loud often. There was so much wit, charm, passion, and even the perfect angst! It didn’t drag along, but moved along at a perfect pace. This was by far one of the best, highest quality romances I’ve ever had the joy of experiencing. It had all the ⭐️’s: hot, steamy love, emotion (not overdone drama and silly theatrics), a great plot, complex and lovable characters with no internal monologue, but excellent dialogue, paired with a superb narrator. Mary Jane Wells does even the male voice justice. Thank you for this one, Eloisa James! I will be revisiting it for sure. ❤️ Refreshing—so happy to give this one a 5 ⭐️ review! I don’t do that often as I’m very meticulous—and even a bit “extra” when it comes to ratings.

Perfect start to a new series

Fun, funny, interesting, and entertaining. Enjoyed the characters, dialogue, and storyline. Mary Jane Wells brings life to the characters and is simply the best narrator.

I love flawed characters

Having a dyslexic heroine is a first for me and frankly over due. My son is dyslexic and his struggles have been very real, so everything Torie felt hit home for me. The Viscount was an ass but redeemable in the end. Mary Jane Wells’ performance was incredible. She’s the reason I listen to books she narrates more than once. I audibly sighed with relief when I heard her voice. I wish she’d narrate all historical romances. Overall I enjoyed this story.

Almost!

I love Mary Jane Wells, she is the best there is at narration. I loved the story, the characters were absolutely precious. The children were well written and funny. The spicy was mid at best but wasn't until 25 chapters in.

One of Eloisa James best

EVERYTHING you could want in an historical romance novel: intelligent but emotionally troubled Viscount and a talented yet underappreciated artistic young lady aristocrat. They learn how to love each other and overcome their differences against the background of gossipy British high society, timely political issues and the impediment of her gambling/drinking father.

Love, added to favorites

I loved that this story wasn’t a straight line…. There were other suitors to consider. I enjoyed the narrative with the charismatic kiddos. There were a few gut punches that got emotions going. I will say the painting narrative took me by surprise and I’m not sure it really fit for me. MJW is always an automatic purchase as a narrator for me.

LOVED It!

Combination of Eloisa James' words and Mary Jane Wells' narration = time well spent falling in love.

This is a book that makes you stay up late listening or wake up early to do more listening and then when you finish, you are devastated that you finished it too soon and wished you could listen it it for the first time all over again.

I loved that Victoria was open about her feelings, which is rare in romance novels. She was vulnerable and true to herself. Bravo Eloisa for making her such a great heroine. I can't wait to see what the next book in the series is.

Sadly, I have other books to read or listen to and nothing sounds appealing after this book.
