About this listen
Pfc Eddie Hawkins has two passions in life. First-person shooters and his job as a cupola gunner in a Humvee in Afghanistan. His weapon is a Browning .50 calibre, and Eddie has acquired a reputation for his deadly skills with the heavy machine gun.
It wasn’t always that way, but after a shaky start, he has learned how to handle the gun like an expert. There is no looking back.
But Hawkins is about to face his biggest challenge yet. On patrol near the Afghan city of Ghazni, they run into a strong force of Taliban. A logistics Major wo is temporarily in command insists on retreating and leaving the city in enemy hands. The brass are unhappy at this retreat, and send them back to Ghazni in overwhelming force. The city is now bristling with hostile fighters, a place they have nicknamed the "Inferno". Yet the coming battle will throw them a big surprise. The only question is which bodies will be left on the battlefield after the last bullet is fired.
Hawkins’ Heroes: Inferno is the fourth short novel in the Hawkins’ Heroes series. A collaboration between Todd McCleod and Eric Meyer, the best-selling author of more than 50 war novels.

Story
Eddie Hawkins is part of a four-man crew, the cupola gunner on a Humvee in Afghanistan. His job, firing the .50 caliber Browning. His mission, to protect his buddies and kill the enemy. He’s also the newest and youngest member of the team. The guy they won’t listen to, even when he’s saying something important. Why listen to the kid who can’t shoot straight? At least that’s what they keep telling him. Until the day he sees something so vital he forces them to listen and they have to take notice. Eddie saves countless Coalition lives, and nothing will ever be the same again.

Southern Afghanistan was slipping away. That was clear to then-Captain Rusty Bradley as he began his third tour of duty there in 2006. The Taliban and their allies were infiltrating everywhere, poised to reclaim Kandahar Province, their strategically vital onetime capital. To stop them, the NATO coalition launched Operation Medusa, the largest offensive in its history. The battlefield was the Panjwayi Valley, a densely packed warren of walled compounds that doubled neatly as enemy bunkers.

Story
In 2009 Clinton Romesha of Red Platoon and the rest of the Black Knight Troop were preparing to shut down Command Outpost Keating, the most remote and inaccessible in a string of bases built by the US military in Nuristan and Kunar in the hope of preventing Taliban insurgents from moving freely back and forth between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Three years after Keating's construction, the army was finally ready to concede what the men on the ground had known immediately: It was simply too isolated and too dangerous to defend.

Story
Almost 2.5 million Americans have served in Afghanistan or Iraq since September 11, 2001. C.J. Chivers has reported from both fronts from the beginning, walking side by side with combatants for more than a dozen years. He describes the experience of war today as it is endured by those most at risk - the camaraderie and profound sense of purpose, alongside courage, frustration, and moral confusion mixed with technical precision. In these remote places where the reason for their presence is sometimes not clear, these young men kill or are killed, facing palpable and often constant threat of ambush or hidden bombs....

Story
On April 6, 2003, 26 Green Berets, including those of Sergeant First Class Frank Antenori's Special Forces A-Team (call sign Roughneck Nine One), fought a vastly superior force at a remote crossroads near the village of Debecka, Iraq. The enemy unit had battle tanks and 150 well-trained, well-equipped, and well-commanded soldiers. The Green Berets stopped the enemy advance, then fought them until only a handful of Iraqi survivors finally fled the battlefield.

Story
Called “the best account of combat since Black Hawk Down” by Men’s Journal, Thunder Run is a no-holds-barred look at the sweep of Baghdad, Iraq in 2003 by U.S. armed forces. One of the boldest gambles in modern military history, the surprise attack on Baghdad by three battalions of tanks and APCs and less than 1,000 men total was the single stroke that is credited for ending the Iraqi war.

Story
At 24 years of age, U.S. Army Ranger Sean Parnell was named commander of a forty-man elite infantry platoon - a unit that came to be known as the Outlaws - and was tasked with rooting out Pakistan-based insurgents from a mountain valley along Afghanistan's eastern frontier. Parnell and his men assumed they would be facing a ragtag bunch of civilians, but in May 2006 what started out as a routine patrol through the lower mountains of the Hindu Kush became a brutal ambush.

Story
In Battlefield Ukraine, all the usual suspects are hard at work: battles over resources, money, and miscommunication. This predictive novel explores a potential war between NATO and Russia over the fate of the separatist regions in eastern Ukraine. Lines have been drawn in the sand, but how firm are they? Will the massive disinformation campaign by the Russians trick the new American administration to do their bidding? Will the new American president back down, or will the world creep one step closer toward global war?

Story
At last, here is a book that tells the full story of the turning point in World War II's Battle of the Bulge - the story of five crucial days in which small groups of American soldiers, some outnumbered 10 to 1, slowed the German advance and allowed the Belgian town of Bastogne to be reinforced. Alamo in the Ardennes provides a compelling, day-by-day account of this pivotal moment in America's greatest war.
