Story
Since premiering in the summer of 2016, Stranger Things has become a global phenomenon. It also restored in vivid detail the pulse and feel of a decade: the 1980s. Indeed, the show's creators - the Duffer brothers - describe the series as "a love letter to the '80s". From its synth soundtrack, to its retro fonts, to its nostalgic nods to Spielberg and Stephen King, Stranger Things is populated with references, homages, and artifacts from the Reagan era. This audiobook dives deep into that world, revealing everything you wanted to know about the series and its influences.

Story
Rotterham Home was a hospice for young people—a place where teenagers with terminal illnesses went to die. Nobody who checked in ever checked out. It was a place of pain and sorrow, but also, remarkably, a place of humor and adventure. Every night at twelve, a group of young guys and girls at the hospice came together to tell stories. They called themselves the Midnight Club, and their stories could be true or false, inspiring or depressing, or somewhere in-between. One night, in the middle of a particularly scary story, the teenagers make a secret pact with each other.

A decent collection of campfire tales
I did this to myself. I was missing Stranger Things, and I wanted to spend time with those characters again, and this audiobook gave me an opportunity to do that. I also liked that it was short.
Hawkins Horrors has a good premise: the Hawkins kids crew, minus Eleven, Will, and Jonathan go to the video store to watch some horror movies. Their plans are derailed when a blackout takes out the power. The kids are not ready to go home yet, so they decide to utilize the darkness and a flashlight to tell campfire tales. The strongest stories are "A Little Voice," which takes place in an asylum, and "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," which was a bit of a nod to The Craft, "Lover's Lake" would have been a strong story, if I had not read something like it before.
The problems with this collection are:
1) I am not sure who the intended audience is. The stories range from middle grades to young adult, and "Lover's Lake" borders on adult horror.
2) "Lover's Lake" is too derivative of Stephen King's "The Raft". It changes some elements from King's story, but it is mostly the same.
3) Some of the stories were too rushed to really have an impact.
I would recommend this to young readers who like Goosebumps and Are You Afraid of the Dark? I would just caution parents to read or listen to "Lover's Lake" before they let their young ones read it.

The Lore of the Town is starting to come.
We have more expanded knowledge of Stranger Things in this anthology, this time about the town of Hawkins itself. Love the Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark vibes here. Narration isn't bad, though he doesn't seem to do well with character voices, sorry to say.

The best of the series.
This is the best of the series because it has stories of monsters, not just regular life like all the other Stranger Things novels. All the stories are good.
