About this listen

Alex Bledsoe continues the adventures of freelance sword jockey Eddie LaCrosse in the thrilling He Drank, and Saw the Spider.

After he fails to save a stranger from being mauled to death by a bear, a young mercenary is saddled with the baby girl the man died to protect. He leaves her with a kindly shepherd family and goes on with his violent life.

Now, 16 years later, that young mercenary has grown up to become cynical sword jockey Eddie LaCrosse. When his vacation travels bring him back to that same part of the world, he can't resist trying to discover what has become of the mysterious infant.

He finds that the child, now a lovely young teenager named Isadora, is at the center of a complicated web of intrigue involving two feuding kings, a smitten prince, a powerful sorceress, an inhuman monster, and long-buried secrets too shocking to imagine. And once again she needs his help.

They say a spider in your cup will poison you but only if you see it. Eddie, helped by his smart, resourceful girlfriend Liz, must look through the dregs of the past to find the truth about the present - and risk what might happen if he, too, sees the spider.

Funny, intelligent and read by the best!

I have listened to the entire series back to back with as little down time as I could manage. Stefan Rudnicki’s voice is deep and buttery. The stories of Eddie the Sword Jockeys adventures will keep you laughing and begging for more. The mysteries are engrossing and hilarious or and plenty of swash buckling for the guys. Well done Alex Bledsoe!

Hopefully, there will be more!

The last book ( since this review ) and if you notice there is no 1, or even 2 star reviews on this book. This should really tell you by now this series is good stuff, and this will be no exception. If you got this far, you will enjoy this book. I personally, liked it and it was over too soon with no more books to read. There was no clear "ending" minus like the other books, so we can only hope more come. This one focuses on a vacation gone wrong with more of his past getting in the way of relaxation. This (to me) is the weakest story of all the books, but that isnt saying much because I still liked this one. But to me its the most forgettable. There is things I enjoyed, but generally speaking it takes place in one area, and not a crazy amount of adventuring. Still worth reading 100%. Sad that there isnt another I can dive into.

Narrator

I listened just because of the narrator Stefan Rudniki, but the books were entertaining.

Mystery, metaphors, magic!

Once again LaCrosse has to find the correct string to pull to untangle a mystery covered up by magic. All metaphors aside, there really is magic, monsters are real, and kings can drive themselves crazy.

Still as good as the first book!

Have listened to series at least twice now and still love the mix of mystery, magic, action, and personal insight. Sad it had to end but what a great one to end on!
