About this listen

In this wonderful and unique tale, beauty meets "the brain." She's a beautiful "actress", he's a brainy scholar. A practical joke brings them together and the sparks fly. Once the dust settles they both change their ways.Public Domain (P)2009 Jimcin Recordings Classics Human Brain

Editorial reviews

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s tale of unlikely romance follows student Horace Tarbox, a prodigious Princeton elite, besotted by workaday chorus girl Marcia. No stranger to the classics, actor Jim Roberts personifies the intellectual Tarbox - brilliant but aloof and unworldly - and his passionate, adventurous love interest. The hardworking actress contributes the "shoulders" on which their relationship rests, providing financial support for Horace’s academic pursuits. This tale of love and sacrifice finds Marcia developing creative aspirations of her own, so that Horace must decide whether he is willing to embrace a reversal of roles and sacrifice his scholarly lifestyle to support her endeavors.

Fitzgerald did it again

I bought this book, because it's Fitzgerald, and it turned out to be a fabulous piece as expected. This short novel about the head-and-shoulders couple explores a wonderful twist in the concepts of beauty and scholarship.
