Story
Published in 1922, Fitzgerald's second novel chronicles the relationship of Anthony Patch, Harvard-educated, aspiring aesthete, and his beautiful wife, Gloria, as they await to inherit his grandfather's fortune. A devastating satire of the nouveaux rich and New York's nightlife, of reckless ambition and squandered talent, it is also a shattering portrait of a marriage fueled by alcohol and wasted by wealth. The Beautiful and Damned, Fitzgerald wrote to Zelda in 1930, "was all true."

Story
Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was 36. They were married when Clare was 23 and Henry was 31. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing.

Not Same as the Movie, but Good
Any additional comments?
Well written and brilliant for it's length. It is a story of a man who is born old and ages in reverse. But it differs quite a bit from the movie.

Very Entertaining
Very entertaining , although somewhat predictable, since Fitzgerald wrote it in 1922. Very short, 1 1/2 hrs audio, superbly narrated by B. J. Harrison. Definitely worth the listen or read, especially from a literary great.

Meh.
Would you listen to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button again? Why?
Nope. If there was an academic purpose, maybe.
Any additional comments?
I wanted more. . . .guidance? What was the purpose of this topic, this back to front, inside out of normal format? Nothing is ever perfect no matter from what direction it is approached? Got that, but the end disappointed - there could have been so much more. If it is all about being fully present, it is what it is, you get what you get and don't pitch a fit, well, hell. This is the reason I read the end of the book first. With Audible, you can't really do that, so my usual cheat is defeated.

Movie is better than the book
I should be fair, and that is to say the book is an original idea that had so much more potential. That is what the movie capitalized on. In addition, the book is a short story, so was limited in length as to what it could accomplish. The result was a quick rush through the events of Benjamin Button.
The story is dated, and the mores of that era come through. It is chauvinistic in tone and references to the south and pre-war slavery appear, and without apology. Be warned if you have limited tolerance for these issues.
Get this if you are curious (pardon the pun) as to the genesis of the movie plot, but don't invest the time or money if you are looking for more.
