About this listen

Laced with romance, gothic imagery, Catholic mysticism, diaspora, and horror....

When lonely transgender exorcist, Colin Hart, finds himself challenged by an unruly haunted house in Gideon, Colorado, he’s kept awake by ghosts, demons, ghouls, and the handsome nonbinary owner of the house, Bishop Martínez.

Unlike the simple hauntings Colin is accustomed to, Bishop’s house is a living beacon, attracting a plethora of inhuman creatures, including a vengeful wolf-headed spirit who might be the key to quieting their sleepless nights.

But as a heartbreaking mystery unravels, Colin comes face-to-face with the past Bishop tried to bury, opens a closet full of bloody skeletons, and trips into an accidental romance.

As paranormally skilled as Colin might be, this particular haunting may be too messy for him to handle….

Who says you can't judge a book by it's cover??

I grabbed this initially because the cover drew me in and I held off on reading until the whole series was out. I did a tandem read/listen with the audibook and binged the series at work.. Book one was very 'Teen Wolf' (the tv series) soft and suspensful with a lure of more to come. I was sucked in by the mix of paranormal and mystery.

Good, but I wanted a little MORE

Good. As I often find with novellas, I wanted just a little bit more somewhere to sink my teeth into, but still good.

Good fun

Two interesting trans characters in a supernatural setting, great literature? no, but a fun summer read.

Confusing/poorly written with bad narration

I was excited to read a story including trans characters. I was disappointed despite my pre-disposition to like the story. This book does not qualify as a romance. This story has at best "insta-lust." There was no emotional connection between the characters and I had no investment in the characters. The story at points was very confusing and the writing contain significant portions of overwrought prose.

The narrator's choice of voices for the characters did not seem to match the descriptions contained in the text. His narration was also flat. I would not have finished this book if it had not been a book club selection.

Terrible writing.

Unfortunately this book just doesn't have it. The writing is weak, the prose was awful. Wouldn't recommend this one (or this author) to even my nemesis. Too many other books out there to read!
