About this listen

Upon the close of the season, Warren Daventry returns home to Winhurst Hall, only to be assaulted with the consequences of his father's drunkenness. The estate's tenants are on the verge of a revolt and funds are beginning to run low. But when Warren tries to step in and help, his father is none too pleased and quickly cuts off his allowance and banishes him for the Estate.

With nowhere else to turn, Warren finds himself at the home of his best friend, Marcus Graham. Brackingham Abbey soon proves to be the perfect diversion from his troubles, especially when he learns that Marcus's little sister, Serena, has harbored a tendre for him for quite some time. Delightfully entranced with her emerging beauty, Warren can't keep his distance, though due to his circumstances, he knows he cannot properly court her.

A relationship that is meant to be kept secret soon evolves into so much more, as a protective older brother, meddling friend, and an unsuspecting villain tries to intervene. What begins as a simple diversion becomes more than Warren bargained for, but he soon learns that there is more to his fascination with Serena than he initially imagined. But will it be enough to sustain the pair through anything that may come their way?

I loved it!

I thought it was really good. The narration was good, and I would listen to it again.

OK book with great narration..

WOW! This wasn’t nearly as good as the other two books in the series. This was as boring as hell and the author made Serena sound so young, or Warren too old, not sure which. Warren is twenty-six and he never saw Serena as anything other than his best friend’s little sister until last year, so I’m assuming Serena is eighteen, maybe nineteen. And she’s so eager to do whatever he asks. She just seems too immature to me. And then there’s Josceline, who’s fifteen and crazy about Marcus. I just got the feeling there were no mature females in this story, only males who were nearing thirty. I’m really glad this was only a 225 page story.

It did get a little exciting when Serena was poisoned because of what she witnessed, at about 85%.

There was a little desire in this but absolutely no sex. It was all fade-to-black.

As to the narration: Tristan Hunt did a great job. His men and women were perfect and the emotions were wonderful.

Fun Recency Romance

Another great novel from Hartman. I felt more immersed in the Recency era in this book then ever before. I loved the interesting characters and the twists. I would certainly recommend this to fans of romance and historical fiction.
