How far would you go to protect the ones you love...when they may not be yours to protect?

When Josh’s longtime partner, Grace, dies in a tragic accident, he is left with a mess of grief - and full custody of her seven-year-old son, Logan. While not his biological father, Josh has been a dad to Logan in every way that counts, and with Grace gone, Logan needs him more than ever.

Wanting to do right by Logan, Josh begins the process of becoming his legal guardian - something that seems suddenly urgent, though Grace always brushed it off as an unnecessary formality. But now, as Josh struggles to find the paperwork associated with Logan’s birth, he begins to wonder whether there were more troubling reasons for Grace’s reluctance to make their family official.

As he digs deeper into the past of the woman he loved, Josh soon finds that there are many dark secrets to uncover, and that the truth about where Logan came from is much more sinister than he could have imagined....

Tightly paced and brimming with tension, Her Secret Son is a heartbreakingly honest portrait of a family on the edge of disaster and a father desperate to hold on to the boy who changed his life.

It was unexpected

I wasn't sure how I was going to like this book when I first bought it, but it turned out better than expected. The twists were good, even if I did figure out the ending, most of it anyway. The narrator I didn't care as much for, but he did a decent job telling the story. It was an interesting storyline.

Long and repetitive.

Mixed feelings about this book. Great story however the delivery was slow. Characters were well defined but the repetition of their identities made the story lengthy and monotonous

I have never experienced a narrator like this one 😍

What a phenomenal and powerful novel by Hannah Mary McKinnon. I wasn’t expecting to really enjoy this novel because it comes off as a family drama that didn’t really have any alluring uniqueness in the description that excited me. However, as the story unraveled, my mind was seriously entranced into McKinnon’s world. The characters were so realistically villainous that I was cheering for the main character (Josh) to find out the truth and make it right for baby-boy Logan.

The ending surprised me the most. At first, I felt like it came out of left field, but then I got to thinking about how well thought-out it was and how much it made sense to the overall development of the characters and plot. It was so dark. So bonkers. It was everything I needed to make this family drama suspenseful.

I am pleasantly surprise at how much I loved this novel and I will NEVER skip another Hannah Mary McKinnon book again. I don’t think America is talking about this book enough and I need it to become a popular book here so I have someone else to talk about it with!! Ahhhhh!!!

Fantastic narrator and a great story

I love trying to figure out the twists and turns and yet when I do, I’m always disappointed.... nothing disappointing here —my mouth dropped several times as each reveal came out of the shadows! And the narrator was fantastic —w/ EVERY character! Kudos to McKinnon for a great story that I enjoyed returning to again and again... and Wyndham for that narration. Loved it!!

Narration fantastic & story a ride and a half

The story deals with the consequences of tragedy very convincingly - and then you're taken on a twisting journey which is never less than compelling. The narration is also top notch, I've rarely heard such fantastic expression and emotion. Well done.

Pretty good read

I really did enjoy the book, but I did have a feeling where the ending was headed so it was a little predictable to me. I did catch myself debating how would I handle some of the situations that the characters were faced with and thankful that I will hopefully never be in that situation.

Narrator is terrible.

Narrator totally distracts from the story. Narrator voice is low and gravelly. Total a monotone and I could not follow the story line.
