I love this story and getting an audio version was so amazing! The Narration is great and Jo did an awesome job brining Eve to life! If you like a quick romance of unlikely pair then this is a great book to try!

All in all, I really liked this story. It’s not perfect and honestly I wish it would have been a bit longer to let us see more of the character’s insight into the previous murders he committed (not gonna say his name cos of spoilers) and the steps that got him into being a serial killer. But at the end of things, I really loved the main female character and following her feelings and issues in this story. Great performance too!

This book is surprisingly nuanced! I came in expecting a good ol' regular dark romance, but Lark spent time building nuanced into the characters. Everyone is a bit morally grey and battling their own demons with some deliciously f*cked up coping mechanisms.

We get 3 PoVs throughout the book. I loved watching a the main relationships develop through the PoV of her FBI partner. It's a cast of 3 people, with 2 supporting characters, and all the characters feel like complex, real people.

It's not copaganda! I was expecting some measure of copaganda and just resigned myself to it, but the book is critical of the FBI's boy's club culture and falls squarely into the genera of crime noir. I deeply enjoyed the subtle but effective way this did not glorify a broken system, but hung a lantern on the cracks. All while being incredibly sexy.

The spice in this is EXCELLENT.

There is an unplanned pregnancy plot line but this is NOT a "baby makes a happy ending" book. HEA, but a nuanced HEA.

It's standalone but I hope we get the next one in the series on audio too!

I loved the story overall and am off to look for more from this author. It’s a great dark romance but if you’re looking for 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ add this one to the tbr for when you’re in a more story focused mood 😉
