As an ex-DCI, Smith could have retired by now, and it is clear that some of his superiors wish that he would do so.

Story
Northern Ireland, spring 1981. Hunger strikes, riots, power cuts, a homophobic serial killer with a penchant for opera, and a young woman’s suicide that may yet turn out to be murder: on the surface, the events are unconnected, but then things—and people—aren’t always what they seem. Detective Sergeant Duffy is the man tasked with trying to get to the bottom of it all. It’s no easy job—especially when it turns out that one of the victims was involved in the IRA but was last seen discussing business with someone from the loyalist Ulster Volunteer Force.

Kidnappers grabbed Jenna in broad daylight, right in front of her children and their horrified classmates. Her family was issued an insane ransom demand: $25 million in cash and jewels, payable by the end of the school day, otherwise they’ll never see her again. As Jenna’s mother scrambles to gather the money, detectives Mo Butler and George Ortega follow the trail of the kidnappers, which will lead them through a sordid landscape of jealous lovers, broken dreamers, and twisted schemers. But every second counts, and there’s one thing Jenna Wade doesn’t have: very much time.

Story
My fiancé brought me tea and scrambled eggs in bed that morning, and we snuggled together, talking about buying our rings, and about our perfect wedding next year. Then we headed into town. He held my hand and gazed at the ring I liked best, a smile spreading slowly over his face. Then a glass of bubbly to celebrate. I felt flushed, excited and ready for the rest of my life with the man I loved. We race to get on the train home. It screams to a halt and I run towards its open doors. Made it. I think he’s right behind me — but when I turn around, he’s gone.

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Great Mystery!
I so enjoyed listening to this book by Alison Gray with all of its twists and turns. I thought the author wrote an original story and it kept me guessing, I so love it when I do not have it figured out. Kudos to Alison Gray for that. Lisa Angelini did a great job with her performance. She has a clear and concise voice, and she added to the imagery of the book. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I would definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

Not my cup of tea
I found this book to be so so at the very best. The story was not able to capture my attention. It could have been the characters who were totally flat to me. What I am trying to say is everything just fell short. This book just did not work for me. I received this book at no cost to me for my honest review.

great story just ok narrator
This was a very interesting story although some aspects we're a bit unbelievable like Abby leaving her son with absolute strangers in a foreign country after just losing her partner. Overall I loved the two mysteries rolled into one story. The narrator was ok not great but not bad the characters could have had more differentiation to make the story easier to listen to. I look forward to listening to more books in this collection. I received this book for free for an honest review.

Bones without Booth
This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBoom dot com.
The story was a little slow. Despite the book revolving around the mystery of the bones, they never make progress in the case. Instead, they get distracted by more personal unrelated crimes. That irked me a little. I suspect we won't learn who is behind the spiral of bones until book 3.
The narrator did a fine job, but I found her voice a little flat at times.

Great Book!
Have you listened to any of Lisa Angelini’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No I haven't, but she did a great job narrating this book and really brought the characters to life.
Any additional comments?
This was a good mystery book. It kept me guessing throught the book who the killer was. The book did start a little slow, but it was more interesting the farther into the book I got. The characters were in-depth and I could relate to them. Overall, this is a good British mystery book.

Grief and Murder
Hibiscus Fruit
: Alison Gray
DS Abby Foulkes partner is killed so she takes their son out of country for a change of scene. While there she is drawn into a possible murder mystery. There are many twists, turns and more mysteries to solve. The story moves slowly, but the listener will be kept guessing as to "who did it?" Now on to another book in this series.
The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. I enjoyed Lisa Angelini's voicing of this book.
