About this listen

Can a hitman and a psychic negotiate a relationship while all hell breaks loose?

The world might not know who Lee Burton is, but it needs his black ops division and the work they do to keep it safe. Burton’s spent his life following orders - until he sees a kill jacket on Ernie Caulfield. Ernie isn’t a typical target, and something is very wrong with Burton’s chain of command.

Ernie’s life may seem adrift, but his every action helps to shelter his mind from the psychic storm raging within. When Burton shows up to save him from assassins and club bunnies, Ernie seizes his hand and doesn’t look back. Burton is Ernie’s best bet in a tumultuous world, and after one day together, he’s pretty sure Burton knows Ernie is his destiny as well.

But when Burton refused Ernie’s contract, he kicked an entire piranha tank of bad guys, and Burton can’t rest until he takes down the rogue military unit that would try to kill a spacey psychic. Ernie’s in love with Burton and Burton’s confused as hell by Ernie - but Ernie’s not changing his mind and Burton can’t stay away.

Psychics, assassins, and bad guys - throw them into the desert with a forbidden love affair and what could possibly go wrong?

Burton and Ernie's love story

yes, again, I read the book first but omg, Burton and Ernie came to life under the wonderful narration of Greg Tremblay. This story follows along with A Few Good Fish but from Burton and Ernie's perspective. Burton, our black op's hero and Ernie, our sexy psychic, who turns out to be the home Burton never knew he needed. While this book has a different feel from the Fish series, it is still very intense with bad guy assassins, danger in the desert and two men who fall in love. Cannot wait for the next book in this series!
I'm also mentioning here my book review: I fell in love with Burton when Amy started to share bits and pieces of him on her facebook page and when he meet Ernie, I went down a rabbit hole I never knew I needed. Dear lord, they were amazing, complex, innocent, jaded and both so desperate for love. I laughed, cried, cursed and loved on them so hard to get a happy ever after. I loved watching Ernie interact with Sonny, seeing Sonny and Ace together, and then adding in Jackson and Ellery. So much love in this book for 3 amazing couples!

Read Racing for the Sun first!

This is an incredible story! It's essentially the same story as a few good fish, but connects more with the characters from racing for the Sun. As the point of view is different, You see different insights and The story fills the gaps of time left in a few good fish! If you didn't read racing for the sun before a few could fish, I highly recommend reading it now because it's more of a sequel to racing for the sun than belonging with the fish out of water series in my opinion, Even though it's a crossover between the two! I'm so excited for the next one!

Good story. Good narration.

This book is technically part of two different series, and had a slightly divided feel. If you read the Racing for the Sun series and the Fish Out of Water series, this fills in gaps and adds content with a focus on different characters.

I enjoyed the story and appreciated some of the social messages. I missed having the focus on Jackson and Ellery, but it was interesting to see them through Lee and Ernie's eyes. The plot is a bit of a wrap up for the first arc of the series, but there is more to come.

Definitely enjoyed the narrator.

Families are not always blood and the grow.

I love each book grows as they fight the good fight. The family of good people fighting the innocent. Their pain, struggle, love and hope. Can't get enough of this series. I love how families are built through all throughout these books.

The same story, different POV

Fish Out of Water is by far my favourite series by Amy Lane’s. I’ve read and re-read/listened to each book, some more than once and I was excited to see another book in this series. Sure it wasn’t with Ellery and Jackson as main characters, but I still looked forward to it.

Hiding the Moon is a crossover between Racing for the Sun and the Fish Out of Water series. I’d recommend reading the series before starting on this one as they are heavily connected. It takes place during the same time as the last book in the Fish Out of Water series so a lot of the things taking place you already know. This time though it’s told from Burton and Ernie’s POV. How they first met, with Burton hired to eliminate Ernie but hiding him away instead. How Burton infiltrates a network of assassins in order to take it down. How they long for each other when apart, fall for each other and fight for each other.

When I listen (or read) a book I’m usually left with conflicted feelings. On the one hand, more often than not, when I’m listening/reading I’m totally immersed and enjoy the story. The minute I put it down or finish it my mind starts to think and rarely agrees with the experience I had while reading. Listening to this book was the same. So while I had a great time during my listen, as soon as the book was finished my mind immediately went to “is that it?”. I wanted something more than just A Few Good Fish from another POV. I mean that story has already been told. Sure we got to know Burton and Ernie better but that wasn’t enough for me to warrant an entire book. If it had been more focused on the events taking place after A Few Good Fish it would have felt more meaningful to me.

Nick J. Russo is without a doubt a very talented narrator, but I still prefer Greg Tremblay’s smooth voice. And switching narration mid series is always a risky move. I can understand why, seeing as Russo narrated the crossover Racing for the Sun and Burton and Ernie are more connected to them than to Jackson and Ellery. As far as the narration itself Russo did a great job, capturing the essence of the story and the characters, I especially fell for his impersonation of Ernie who shone a bit more brightly than the rest.

In the end, I was kind of disappointed. I wanted more than just a rehash of the previous book. Don’t get me wrong, it was a good story and good narration, I just needed more than what we got.

I'm so glad Nick narrated this awesome story!

I loved this so much! So. Much!

I loved the bit of paranormal. I loved the play on their names. I loved seeing Ace and Sonny again… I loved it!

I wished we’d seen them together more – there was an awful lot of time where these guys are apart but – the time together – wowza – hot and such great chemistry.

I loved this! I loved the paranormal aspect. Loved the Sonny and Ace (they are tied as my fav Amy couple with Patrick and Whiskey) I thought the amount of other "story" was a bit overwhelming to the romance but the relationship building amongst previous mcs was awesome.

I love seeing that place in the desert and hope Jai one day gets his own story - with maybe some Alba tossed in on the side.

I definitely love these guys more than Ellery and Jackson and I hope Nick Russo does this narration!

Audio

YAYAYAYAYAYAY! I am so glad Nick narrated this! It was absolutely stunning! I love listening to Nick and his ability to give depth to these guys is outstanding. I've already listened to this twice and will again soon. If you're a fan of this series and this author do yourself a favor and listen to the audio!
