About this listen

America's favorite bounty hunter is back behind the wheel in her fifth hilarious, high-octane thriller. Out of bail skippers and rent money, Stephanie Plum throws caution to the wind and follows in the entrepreneurial bootsteps of expert bounty hunter Ranger, engaging in morally correct and marginally legal enterprises. Okay, so a scumball blows himself to bits on her first day of policing a crack house, and the sheik she was chauffeuring steals the limo. But hey, nobody's perfect.Don't forget to download the rest of the Stephanie Plum series.©1999 Evanovich, Inc. Critic reviews

"Evanovich tells her fast-paced and furiously funny story expertly. The action never stops, the dialogue is snappy and the characters are more than memorable. Readers can't miss with this one." (Publishers Weekly)

High Five is representative of all of the "Stephanie Plum" books -- it's light, funny, and contains just enough "serious" content to create a ghost of of plot. In short--it's perfect for listening to while driving too & from work, or doing odd jobs aroung the house. But I have to say -- I was disappointed in this particular reader. Two and a half hours of straight read in a heavy New York/New Jersey accent, with few variations in inflection, tone, or cadence almost turned this into a giant snooze session for me.

Content dampened by quality of reading.

The narrator in this one isnt the greatest, she sounds like a teenager to me and just isnt the best. The story is good as always. Would love to see a series that keeps the same narrator for every book.

A little disapointed...

Where does High Five rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Right up at the top

Who was your favorite character and why?

Stephanie Plum is always great as is Lula. I am pretty sure Grandma Mazur is related to my family.

Which scene was your favorite?

I can't say. A few were so good I laughed out loud.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Pretty much.

Any additional comments?

So far I have enjoyed all of Janet Evanovich's books that I have read or listened to (10). They are easy listening, not requiring too much thought. Relaxing and enjoyable with a bit of humor.

Typical Evanovich

it was hard to focus on the details because the voices were all the same, Nasal, breathy and obviously read instead of "performed". Ramirez scene sooo underplayed at the end and all the humor blurred because of the monotone presentation. not up to JE standards.

bad narration...interferes with story

I love this series but the narrator, while her accent was great, did not liven up the story the way the narrator for the four previous books did. The story itself was fun but lacked the usual Stephanie Plum silliness I've come to enjoy in the previous books. Book five felt almost forced.

love the story.

Why do short? Good story but too expensive for a 3 hr read :(. Not sold on the new narrator yet either...

Did not care for the narrator. Just didn’t match Stephanie’s character. Need to have the same person narrate all the books.

Narrative

I love the series, but the narrator is not a good fit. Reads too fast, the characters voices she doesn’t differentiate, and I don’t get a sense of enjoyment from the reading..it is short so I am powering through but not my first choice to listen again.

Not my first choice

I enjoy Evanovich’s writing and themes. I suffered through listening to Debi Mazar proving the narration to this book. No fluctuations with character switches, whiny tone. So disappointed with Debi Mazar being the voice for narration.

Narrator was awful
