About this listen

"[Narrator Saskia Maarleveld] captures each character's personality, helping listeners feel as if they're witnessing the story. A lovely listen for those who enjoy historical romance. " — AudioFile Magazine

Scottish pride, persuasion, and passion—this is Highland romance at its breathtaking best.
From USA Today bestselling author May McGoldrick comes Highland Crown, the first book in the Royal Highlander series.

Inverness, 1820
Perched on the North Sea, this port town—by turns legendary and mythological—is a place where Highland rebels and English authorities clash in a mortal struggle for survival and dominance. Among the fray is a lovely young widow who possesses rare and special gifts.

WANTED: Isabella Drummond
A true beauty and trained physician, Isabella has inspired longing and mystery—and fury—in a great many men. Hunted by both the British government and Scottish rebels, she came to the Highlands in search of survival. But a dying ship’s captain will steer her fate into even stormier waters. . .and her heart into flames.

FOUND: Cinaed Mackintosh
Cast from his home as a child, Cinaed is a fierce soul whose allegiance is only to himself. . . until Isabella saved his life—and added more risk to her own. Now, the only way Cinaed can keep her safe is to seek refuge at Dalmigavie Castle, the Mackintosh family seat. But when the scandalous truth of his past comes out, any chance of Cinaed having a bright future with Isabella is thrown into complete darkness. What will these two ill-fated lovers have to sacrifice to be together…for eternity?

This is a fun one

A rollicking adventure and romance in the Highlands picking up after Culloden..interesting! I love Saskia Maarleveld even if she mispronounced ceilidh.

I Enjoy history like never before

I have been ventured a few novels by May McGoldrick , and I love them all. The narrators are excellent with their Scottish accent as well as the English. I am looking forward more from May McGoldrick.

Wow!

Remarkable! I was caught by the riveting storyline and could not put it down. Narrator Saskia Maarleveld made the difference with a double digit performance with subtle nuances further enhanced by Raphael Corkhill's excellent poetic performances preluding each chapter. This book is a worthy choice!

What a story

I loved this book. At first I thought the Scottish accent might be too strong but then I couldn't stop listening(missed a lot of sleep). There was just enough romance and history to keep my interest. I have read many of this authors works and I hate to say this is my favorite..but. Please don't make the audible readers wait to long for the next book.

Lost in Scottish culture

The bond between Kenny and Isobella is compelling as they face challenge after challenge to stay together. Loved the twists and turns in the plot and will definite move on to Book 2 in this series

Just what I expect from author and narrator

Not my first May McGolrick book, and certainly not my last. It is just what I expect from this author - or duo I should say.
This was a quick, easy, good listen. I really appreciate that May MCGolrick keeps the love scenes clean. It is not that I am prudish but, when I listen to a book I don't need the sex scenes to go on and on. (and honestly when I "read" a book, a lot of times I thumb thru the pages of the scene) As with the old movies I think one gets more out of a scene with the hint of what is going on and using their own imagination, but that is my own opinion.
Good story and a good set up for the next 2 novels in the series. That said, the reason I did not give the story 5 stars is I do think the author did the reader a disservice. We are teased with the parentage of Cinaed and then abruptly the book ends, leaving us hanging - and not in a good cliff hanger way.
And as always, Saskia Maarleveld is an amazing narrator.

Highland Crown

Terrific story with lots of historical details. Much research went into this story. I hope that book 2 and 3 will be recorded. I would like to finish the series. Narration was terrific also.

reminded me of Outlander at points

this had points in it that reminded me of Outlander no time travel but with Isabel being hunted by an officer and that officer the biggest ass reminded me of Outlander in parts of both books they were each like a dog with a bone and out for blood for different reasons and just needed to go away. the Hero of this book had a definite twist to his future and I would have loved to hear how his story ended. I'm glad to see how the book ended but would definitely appreciated a different ending with more detail on his family instead of all the mystery left to the next book. I hate books that are left off for the next ones. I also didn't realize this would have all the politics it did in it and I usually steer clear of those but for some reason I could turn in off. this is one I will be listening to again. Thanks for having this on sale Audible. to the Author "May" great job 😉
