Publisher's summary

Fans of Netflix's Bridgerton series will adore this stunning historical romance debut, where a wary wallflower enters a fake engagement with one of London's most eligible bachelors.

The one woman in London who doesn’t want to marry him is now his fiancée.

William Atherton, earl of Norwood, is as shocked as the rest of London to discover his betrothal via an announcement in the morning paper. Furious at what appears to be a shrewd marriage trap, William tracks down his alleged fiancée before her plans can affect his campaign for a coveted political post. But then William realizes an engagement, however fake, may benefit them both....

Miss Charlotte Hurst may be a wallflower, but she’s no shrinking violet. She would never attempt such an underhanded scheme, especially not with a man as haughty or sought-after as Norwood. Yet his suggestion to play along with the betrothal has its merits...and the longer they pretend, the more undeniably real their feelings become. But when the true culprit behind their engagement is revealed, can their newfound happiness survive the scandal?

A little slow, but still 5 stars.

This is an incredibly easy listen. Since what I needed when I chose this book was something to gently occupy my thoughts without overwhelming my mind, it gets the full five stars !

I admit it was slow, but not so much that it lost your attention. I really liked the duet performance with two voices that literally fit together into a perfect harmony. I’ve listened to duets where I was shocked out of the story when changes occurred and am incredibly happy that that was not the case here.

Wonderful!

If I could give it 10 stars I would. This story was such an absolute joy , the narrators voices were perfectly modulated. The interaction between the Earl and the young lady were spunky, playful just lovely. Everything about it shines, if I go any further there will be spoilers!

Loved this story!

This story was just what I needed on a dark and rainy day in Oregon.
The performance by the narrators I truly enjoyed. It's the first time I've heard a male and a female performance. The reason I gave four stars was due to the fact at two places in the story all parts were done by the female then by the male. It just through me off for a moment. That being said, their performance was wonderful and I loved hearing a female voice and a male voice for Charlotte and Michael.
Give this story a read...you won't regret it!

Good first book… very slow burn

4 stars because while I loved the opening and the build between Charlotte and William, Charlotte’s inflexibility and the rushed ending didn’t give me a chance to enjoy the conclusion as much as I would have liked. Still very good, but could have been amazing.

Thoroughly enjoyed this light and lively novel!

The performance made listening to the book that much more enjoyable. Great job selecting the actors.

Loved it !!

A very enjoyable story ! Great characters , not fond of each other at the start . Building romance was pure joy . Anxious to read the next in the series ! My only issue is the narration, both readers were fine. Although if you’re going to have a male and female narrator they should just read the male or female parts not combine the two .

Okay…just okay

Narrators did a good job, but I would give the storyline and writing a solid “C.” Not a bad book, but not a great one.

Quite annoying

I didn’t even finish because the woman (main character) in the story was so annoying. It’s one thing to be a feminist bluestocking but another thing to be insufferable and make mountains out of mole holes…which she did almost every chance she got. The gal was sooo annoying.

Could have been better

The book started off interesting, but 18 chapters later, it finally reveals the reason for the ruse. I had to skip through almost every chapter to get to that point. I wish the author could have made the plot more exciting.
