Publisher's summary

Listen to The Gathering first to avoid spoilers.

Duncan Macpherson has but one thing in mind. Complete an act of valor in the two days of mortality allotted him by the Muir Witch in order to win the chance to confront Bonny Prince Charles and put his sizeable Macpherson strength behind a long-awaited reckoning. But nothing in his 269 years on Culloden Moor have prepared him for the high desert of the Arizona Strip, or the secrets that await him there.

Lainey Saunders is a fourth-generation rancher determined to save her family legacy for the next generation, but she is unaware of the forces working against her. Lainey must face her past choices in order to save her future, but at what cost?

If these two brave hearts fail, they’ll lose more than just their legacies.

Macbeth is next.

Revisiting his past

Duncan died on the battlefield of Cullodon Moor. He has been offered the chance to come back for 2 days to do a good deed and receive a reward. He is transported to the United States and into the path of a moving vehicle, driven by Lainey. Two stubborn souls and Duncan trying to figure out his good deed. I love the characters in this story and after reading each story, just makes me excited for the next one.

In the Desert of AZ

In the AZ desert is where Duncan awakes and Lainey almost crashes into him. Sabotage, an ex-husband, a ranch in disarray and a 5 year old with bouncing red curls that steals Duncan’s heart as she clings to him with an unexpected trust all mix together with danger in this story.

rancher

An isolated ranch has many dangers for a young family. Duncan has the chance to be the hero in more ways than one. Recommend reading the series in order.

Action packed Highlander time travel romance

I love this series featuring the Ghosts of Culloden Moor. I love the dual narration and Andrew McDermott's Irish brogue is mesmerising. Each story is a stand alone but best enjoyed after reading /listening to the Prequel, The Gathering. The Gathering sets the story arc, when the Muir Witch, Soncerae, offers each of the 79 ghosts that linger on the Moor a boon with the chance to perform a valiant deed and thus move on. Duncan's story takes him to the Arizona Desert. Here Duncan faces his own nightmares when he comes to aid a young rancher and her sweet daughter, Molly. This is a true page turner with a HEA.

Captivating audiobook

Audiobook Review: Duncan: Scottish Paranormal Romance by Andrew McDermott

Duncan, the eighth book in The Ghosts of Culloden Moor series, offers an engaging mix of historical Scottish romance and modern-day suspense. The audiobook version adds an extra layer of depth with multiple narrators, each voicing different characters, making the listening experience even more immersive.

Duncan Macpherson, a ghost from the Battle of Culloden, is given two days of mortality to complete an act of valor. His goal is to confront Bonny Prince Charles, but instead, he finds himself in the heat of the Arizona desert. This modern-day setting is a surprising twist for the 18th-century Highlander, creating both humor and tension as he navigates a world far removed from the one he knew.

Lainey Saunders, a tough rancher fighting to save her family legacy, is the perfect foil for Duncan's stoic strength. Their connection builds slowly but meaningfully, with both characters needing to confront their pasts and choices to secure their futures. The romance between them is heartfelt, but it's their emotional journey that truly stands out.

What sets this audiobook apart is the use of multiple narrators, each bringing a unique voice to the different characters. Duncan's Scottish brogue, Lainey's determined tone, and the distinct personalities of the supporting characters come through vividly, enriching the overall experience. This multi-narrator approach enhances the emotional impact, making the dialogue and interactions feel more authentic and dynamic.

The combination of historical intrigue, paranormal elements, and romance is compelling, and the added depth provided by the narrators makes Duncan a standout in the The Ghosts of Culloden Moor series. Fans of Highlander romances, time-travel stories, and supernatural twists will find this audiobook both engaging and memorable.

A well-written story from a good author

Duncan (The Ghosts of Culloden Moor #8), my first read from author Jo Jones and the eighth in the highly enjoyable Ghosts of Culloden Moor series. My wife is a Scottish romance reader & sometimes the books she reads influence me. A well-written short read. I'll read more from this author & in this series, but what really got me going was narrator Andrew McDermott, I love his Irish brogue. Co-narrator Jenn McGuirk added to the enjoyment of the book. “I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
