About this listen

Jack MacVie is a Scottish rebel, robbing English nobles on the road north into Scotland alongside his four brothers. But the MacVie brothers are not hell-bent on riches. They became highwaymen to fight against the tyranny of King Edward of England.

In the aftermath of the Berwick massacre, Lady Isabella Redesdale is risking it all, journeying north into war-torn Scotland to be with her sister. But when her carriage is attacked by a band of villains, another gang descends to steal her away.

Although they come from different worlds, Jack and Isabella are more alike than they first realize. They both crave freedom from war and despair, but in a world where kings reign and birth dictates one's station, freedom is not won, it is stolen.

Pros: I’m a sucker for medieval Scottish romance and duet narration; the female narrator was a perfect fit.
Cons: It is WAY too short. Like a Cliff’s Notes abridged story with a super rushed ending; the passionate buildup leading to the only sexy time was a letdown; the
male narrator was good with a great English and Scottish accent but his choice to give Jack the voice he did left a lot to be desired.

All in all, it was a great premise and left me wanting more stories about Jack’s sister and brothers.

FINALLY! I don’t know who made the decision to have a male narrator vocalize the male characters and a female vocalize the female characters, but it’s about time. This nonsense of using both male and female narrators, each solely on a chapter at a time to voice all characters, is ludicrous at the least. Flip flopping all characters using a male voice, then listening to a female narrator only, doing the same for all characters in the next chapter is irritating and makes no sense. If you’re going to use a male and a female narrator for a book, this is book is an example of how it should be done!

I think this could have been a really good book if it was longer with more character and plot development.

The narrators were okay.

Okay - not great

I read all the reviews before I order a title. must have missed something here. the storyline was unoriginal and the over-emphasis on sexual scenes was juvenile. Guess I was expecting more of a plot.

No new storyline

Juvenile bodice ripper lit. I was deceived by the 5 star rating, live and learn.

Embarrassed that I bought this.....

I kept waiting for the plot to evolve but it was laughable and predictable. The Scottish accent was the best part!
