Publisher's summary

Rushmore McKenzie is a former cop, current millionaire, and an occasional unlicensed PI who does favors for friends. Yet he has reservations when his girlfriend’s daughter asks him to help her father, Jason Truhler, the ex-husband of McKenzie’s girlfriend and a man in serious trouble.

En route from St. Paul to a Canadian blues festival on Highway 61, he met a girl, blacked out, and awoke hours later in a strange motel, with the girl’s murdered body on the floor. Slipping away unnoticed and heading home, he thought he’d got away - until he started getting texts with photos of the body and demands for blackmail payments he couldn’t pay.

McKenzie soon finds that Truhler was set up in a modified honey trap, designed to blackmail him. But Truhler’s version wasn’t exactly the truth either. And McKenzie now finds himself trapped in the middle of a very dangerous game with some of the most powerful men in the state on one side and some of the deadliest on the other.

My "Prayer Review" Happy to add a new guy to it.

Dear God: Please let this man write another book soon and please let me be here to listen to it. I can't say something like 'even his worst book is good' because I can't think of anything he's done that is worse than anything else.

Before I post this list I have to say that Sandford, Parker and MacDonald are EXTRA special. And Richard Ferrone as John Sandford's voice is an amazing match. Like George Guidall with Craig Johnson and pretty much anything George reads.

Robert B. Parker lived in this space for me as did John D. MacDonald, Michael Connelly, Robert Crais, John Hart, Craig Johnson, John Lescroart, William Kent Krueger Ridley Pearson ,and Jonathan Kellerman. Some others are really good but these guys have something special. If you are into mystery-thrillers I just gave you a back catalog I wish I could have...but I HAVE had it and it is an incredible treasure. I stopped going to libraries and swap places just so I can encourage these guys by sending them money. Please enjoy.

Readers voice annoying, felt like he was angry the whole time and inflection never changed.

Overwrought story, too crazy, too many weirdos. Not the usual thoughtful Housewright in my view.

fast moving and easy to listen to

I enjoy the Mac McKenzie novels by David Housewright. Living in the Twin Cites, I enjoy picturing the venues in my mind. So many novels these day are overloaded with dialog, I like more action. Therefore, this was an enjoyable listen for me.

David Housewright writes marvelous books

I really enjoy reading books when an author uses the locations where the story takes place almost as equally as another character in a story. For people who live in Minnesota, in particular in the Twin Cities areas. This marvelous detective story is a lot of fun because of the familiarity of the locations.
Mr. Housewright writes complex, and engaging stories that engross me so well, it’s hard to put down the book
