Publisher's summary

Part of the award-winning Five Worlds series. Contains strong language.

After escaping the laboratory where he was imprisoned by the scientific mega-corporation GenTech, Kata wants just one thing: to go back to his homeworld of Trandellia with his friend Tau and forget all about what happened. Forget about being imprisoned and mutated, forget about GenTech's attempts to break and sell him as a piece of livestock, and above all, forget the tortures he suffered at the hands of some of the scientists.

Too bad life has other ideas. Everyone who meets him, including his own rulers, see him as nothing but a weapon to be turned on their enemies. The price of his return to Trandellia is simple: go to the entirely lawless world of Atthiras, and find the child of a foreign ambassador who went missing there five years ago.

Betrayed at every turn, surrounded by people whose only thought is to turn him to their own cause, Kata will soon have to make a choice about who to trust. If he picks the wrong person, he and Tau will be dead or re-enslaved, and this time, there'll be no escape.

The Cleanup from Book One

We get a little bit more world-building … which is basically just a SciFi veneer over today, with such weirdness as parking-lot asteroids and cryo-sleep for a three (3) day trip. Generally it is more of the same with Kata and Tau now on the run where they encounter more bad guys that want to take advantage of their unique abilities (mostly Kata). There is less violence, but impact of that experience lingers throughout the story here and gets a little long in the tooth towards the end (and less interesting as it devolves into a pseudo courtroom drama). The biggest issue was that it moved sooo slowly that it was hard to stay focused.

I was given this free advance review/listener copy (ARC) audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Good story about too long

It was an interesting story, especially if you listen to the first book. The narration was OK. I think the story could’ve been cut by four hours. There’s just so much stuff but I fast forward through that. I’m pretty sure didn’t matter because it affected nothing. Overall, it was a good story, just too long.

An amazing joy of a trilogy.

Jude Austin who wrote protect TAU with her beautiful imagination continues the trilogy with Homecoming the second of this trilogy and she wrote it so good that every character feels real, truly an beautiful penmanship.
Now I can only hope that once the third book get onto audio it will fall into my hands for reviewing.

As usual Matt Weisgerber once again have done an amazing job narrating each character perfectly.

Absolutely got
my recommendations !
