About this listen

The official prequel novel to the highly anticipated film

A long time ago, there was the Great War. The reasons for the war have been lost to time. On the shattered surface of the earth, there is a metropolis that lives amid the garbage thrown down from the inhabitants of a sky city floating above it. Welcome to Iron City.

A lonely doctor specializing in cyborg repair, Ido, is doing his best to help the citizens of Iron City. But Ido has a double life, another persona born from the pieces of his broken heart.

Hugo, a young man surviving on a life of crime, spots the ultimate steal: an object that will unearth secrets from his own past.

And Vector, the most powerful businessman in the city, has his sights set on a new technology that will change the future of Iron City forever....

Good enough for what I was looking for. I just wanted to get more info before watching the movie.

FULLED IN SOME BLANKS FROM THE NEW MOVIE

Performance was done well, I enjoyed the narration. The problem is the story line. There’s really not any new information in the entire story that was not discussed, hinted at or inferred from the movie. It all read like a recap. I stuck it out to the end but this turned out to be more of a test of my endurance and self commitment to finishing. With the movie studio name behind the publication it should not be surprising that it’s a disappointment since they do not allow for imagination in their projected profits project equations.

Prequel? Not so much.

Personally I like it but the original Manga was better I want to see someone do a reading of the original work

covers allot of the basis

I liked the performance and fortunately it was good. Because the story is not much engaging as I hoped and it is lacking. It is still nice to know a bit more of the story but in some moments I had a hard time to continue.

The Performance Saved it

Sadly there is no story here. It's a series of scenes intended to explain the characters that you see in the movie. Pat Cadigan writes like she never saw the film, read the script, or was familiar with the manga. Some of the characters are out of character, and the world she describes is not the world of the source material or the movie. The only thing I can say is that it is an enjoyable read. So just don't think about all the flaws and inconsistencies. Just enjoy it as it's own thing.

Just don't think about it.

I found this story interesting. even though we did not have her in it. But it is interesting how he started out Dr.Ito. Check it out when you can.

A prequel

Really cool to learn the stories of all the characters before Alita enters the scene. Beautifully narrated, well written, worth a listen for sure. It helped me understand Hugo better to learn his tragic backstory.

Loved It!

while it does not really provide any new info for the movie, it is a well written and interesting story and the performance is good

better than expected

How to make a prequel book off a movie script yet to be released.....this is why we don’t do that. There is no character dev whatsoever . It jumps around way to much. I’m not even going to try the next book. Movie looks interesting enough though.

Meh

Pat Cadigan has made an elaborate and compelling story to support the Alita film. Her beautifully constructed world of Iron City, with is criminals, junk, and hardship brings the idea of motorball, and the life of Dr, Dyson Ido in a creative and inspiring story. The struggles of Hugo, Ido, Chiren create a world that Alita falls into. Their personal struggles with criminals, crimes, and violence connected to the motor ball industry show the nature of human in is darkest nature. The personal struggles, heroic attempts, and the ideas that Ido brings from Zalem to Iron city. The book would be inspiring for young students as the Manga was to the graphic novels were. The characters were remarkable in the ability connect to the reader.
Brian Nishii is a great narrator his reading gives life to the book, the characters having different desires shown in his tone.
