About this listen

‘Sophie Beckett?’ I smile sweetly. ‘I’m your daughter’s new tutor. May I come in?’ My heart thunders in my chest. Sophie has no idea who I really am, and I need it to stay that way. Otherwise, I might not leave this house alive…

When I first meet Sophie, she seems like any normal loving mother, trying desperately to help her teenage daughter. That’s where I come in. The perfect tutor to get Katie’s life back on track.

I connect instantly with Katie, and Sophie’s thoughtful husband Scott. But Sophie’s dark eyes are full of jealousy when I talk to Scott or share a smile with Katie. I know I’m helping her daughter, whatever she thinks.

But when I find my clothes strewn everywhere, it’s clear Sophie has searched my room. Does she know the truth about why I’m here?

Then Scott tells me how his ex-wife died. My stomach twists.

Whatever Sophie does, I can’t leave now. Katie needs me more than ever. And I will do anything to protect her.

Because Sophie might be keeping secrets, but so am I. When I’m done in her beautiful home, somebody’s life will be over. I know it won’t be mine…

A totally addictive and pulse-pounding psychological thriller from multi-million copy bestseller J M Dalgliesh. Prepare to be gripped until the final, jaw-dropping revelation! Perfect for anyone who loves The Housemaid, The Woman in the Window, Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train.

Dalglies spun a pretty good tale. I did not expect the ending until the story was almost finished. To say much more would be a spoiler. Home Wrecker is worth a listen.

This isn't the Dalgliesh I'm used to, and certainly not what I expected. Halfway through I thought Dalgliesh was not doing so well with a very different style of mystery. I thought he was spending too much time on not very useful story, some of it not believable, too ... until ... until ... I found out that all the seemingly inconsistent and incredible stuff were clues that not only made sense but left me kicking myself for not seeing it.

Nice job at getting out of your comfort zone, JM

An excellent psychological thriller kept me listening addictively. Compared to others of this genre it stood out with the layers of character complexity always leaving you puzzled but in the background knowing something would unfold. A good read

Gripping

I have read a awful lot of Dalgliesh books. The characters are complex to the depth they each need to be. His humor is consistent and I often find myself smiling like a fool. The story is often of little consequence to the telling of it. He allows you to invest in each character enticing you to be concerned or worried about thier safety or simply thier happiness. But this book holds none of those qualities. I could care less about any of them and have nothing invested in any outcome. Good or bad. Did I just miss the place where it says he's maybe a Co-writer? Maybe it's a good book if you aren't trying to place a quality to it.

Sadly, I need a break from the author after this one. The last series was on and off and this book the narrator’s voice was so monotone and the story slow progressing I wanted to skip whole chapters to have some sort of action. Then the ending attempted to wrap everything up, but it seemed like that is what needed additional details and more flushing out. Overall, I was not a fam of this book at all. The way the women attempted to help seemed absolutely insane and written from a “man’s” pov (I know the author is male) but it didn’t make sense that they would utterly torment someone knowing the delicate emotional balance she was already in.

Meh, try one of his other books first

I love Dalgliesh’s stories and this one didn’t let me down. While his Hidden Norfolk- Tom Janssen series remains my favorite, this was an excellent mystery. The narrator did a great job.

Another knock out!

Another hit from J M Dalgliesh a mystery I had to read about this wonderful family and then it wasn't. This book has a surprise ending I had a pit ib my stomach right up the end of the book. A must read for anyone that enjoys a good mystery. If you have not read Mr. Dalgliesh's book this is a stand a lone. His mystery series are great reads.

WOW a great mystery

It hard to listen to 8 straight hours of agony. A little break would have been inviting.

The plot was chilling.

The story was simply outrageous. The surprises were not surprising and the characters spoke in tired, overused conversations.

Not nearly as good as his usual books.
