Publisher's summary

It is summer in the northwest town of Nine Mile Falls, and 16-year-old Ruby McQueen, ordinarily dubbed The Quiet Girl, finds herself hanging out with gorgeous, rich, thrill-seeking Travis Becker. But Ruby is in over her head and starts risking more and more when she’s with him.

In an effort to keep Ruby occupied, Ruby’s mother, Ann, drags Ruby to the weekly book club she runs. When it is discovered that one of the group’s own members is the subject of the tragic love story they are reading, Ann and Ruby spearhead a reunion between the long-ago lovers. But for Ruby, this mission turns out to be much more that just a road trip.

Rembering and hoping.

This is a story for the heart. I just loved it. Remembering the heartache of my own and hoping for what I have dreamt of for my own life relationship. I will recommend this to many of my friends. There are too many situations to relate to. Falling for the bad boy, and the hoping to find him again. Just a heart warming tale. The narration is terrific and emotion just runs through it.

This story will really surprise you stick with it!

Deb Caletti never fails to grab me. That is why I stayed with this book after I started it. When it started, I liked the speaking voice well enough and the character Ruby, the narrator of the book seemed okay as we went through the opening development of the story. But I began to really dislike the story. It seemed too predictable and annoying; Ruby was a little to innocent and "star struck" by Travis who, in turn, was a little too James Dean-ish. I was about to give up on it when I stopped and thought: "Wait!! Annoying???" If I was getting irritated with the characters, then Ms Caletti had snuck up on me and sucked me into the story. I also have liked her other books so well that I decided to stick it out. The characters became three dimensional and each had a surprising depth once they began to get into trouble. The perceived predictability and shallowness of the characters had been something approaching a ruse. Ms Caletti tricked ME!! Ms Ronconi's narration was sublime. Her voices for the different characters were great...even Mrs. Wong's Chinese accent which could have very easily slipped into cliche...perhaps even offensive cliche. Ms Ronconi sidestepped all the possible pitfalls and between Ms Caletti's writing and Ms Ronconi's reading, I was soon over the hump; laughing and crying as I listened (and getting stares...I am sure!). Please have a listen to this book and have the patience to get through the beginning chapters. If you do you will be quite well rewarded.
