Publisher's summary

Beyond the shores of Hope's Peak, North Carolina, evil waits as his next victim approaches. He'll make her a princess like the others...

Detective Jane Harper can't shake the image of the young woman discovered in a field - eyes closed, a crown of woven vines on her head. She expects macabre murders like this in her native San Francisco, not here. Jane and her partner, Stu, vow to catch the killer, but in this town, that's easier said than done. The police department is in the grips of a wide-reaching scandal that could topple the entire force, and Jane and Stu face a series of dead ends. Until they meet Ida Lane.

Ida knows too well the evil that lurks in the cornfields. Tortured by her mother's murder years before, Ida is paralyzed by the fear that she could be next. As the killer grows bolder, Jane must persuade Ida to use her remarkable gifts to help in the investigation. It's a decision that brings them closer to the killer...maybe too close.

decent mystery

narrator was good with different voices. Story told in compelling manner. once killer was outed, it played out a bit too fast.

You had me till chapter 15!

I really enjoyed the story until the last 2 chapters!! I love a good mystery/thriller but I also love happy endings for the main characters especially after what this one has been through!! If your looking for a happy ending-this ain’t it!! I will read book 2 because I’m too invested not!! The narrator really made the experience for me! I love Shannon Manus!!

So So serial killer story

The serial killer story was pretty good but the romance between the detectives and the ex-wifes interference was confusing and unnecessary. I never understood their relationship. The ending was a bit surprising.

This was a great mystery

I enjoyed listening to this book. Detective Jane needs to solve a mystery. Does she always follow protocol or will she go with her gut and get outside help. This was a mystery that I recommend listening to.

Great ending

Great book kept me there. The ending got me though. I wish it was longer.

Good story but....

If you believe psychics are real, add a star. If you think it likely that detective partners would split up to individually go to 4 potentially dangerous suspects houses and once narrowing it down to one suspect, would enter the home without backup, then add another star. Otherwise, it is two stars.

Base book, base people, waste of time

Listened to this book while vacationing in Africa. The crime/mystery portion of the story is probably acceptable, but the love story portion is silly. Loser people acting out a slasher story. The book was free for Prime members.

Advice - don't waste your time on this book.
