It is a golden age of discovery and conquest. But now, on the eve of victory, the Emperor leaves the front lines, entrusting the great crusade to his favourite son, Horus. excellent sci fi pulp

In the future there is only war, and it makes for a great story. Well written by Abnett, and narrated wonderfully, this is a must for 40k fans and sci fi afficienados.

Can Slow Down, But Great Lore and Characters

solid read. Great start to the series. Could slow as it jumped from characters. Loved seeing the interactions of characters though.

Fantastically written & executed

Loved it, couldn't stop listening. I should have purchased it earlier. I highly recommend to anyone not just warhammer 40k fans.

The quintessential 40K novel

There is no question in my mind that this first part of the Horus Heresy-series of books is one of the absolute greatest. The writing of Mr Abnett is superb and the narration of Toby Longworth is really good.
Loken was sublimely brought to life in this one!

Can't wait to listen to the other books in this series.

Greatest Book of the Heresy

absolutely amazing story of the BEST primarch. I do prefer the vocal stylings of Martyn Ellis over Toby Longworth but Toby is one of the greatest narrators out there and the unabridged version of the book is the best.

amazing book filled with wonder

such a dreamy book

I freaking love it. It gives a view of who was horus and the other primarchs before the heresy and it tells you how they felt and what drove them to become traitors.

Genius

Loved it more than my wife. Honestly couldn’t have started my study of the 40k lore in any better way.

For a Warhammer 40k player, great listen

I listened to this audiobook while painting my Warhammer 40k Space Marines and it was a great combination.
I was interested in the battles but stayed for the characters. By the time of writing this review I'm just finishing book 2, False Gods, and starting Book 3.
Give it a try!

Great oration and book

This was my first warhammer book and to be honest as a traditional sci fan I was skeptical about it since I only played the pc game in the warhammer universe. This is a really good book in a really interesting universe and I highly recommend it to anyone with even a passing interest in exploring the warhammer universe. Great characters, dialogue and plot. Looking forward to listening to all the warhammer book on audible.
