About this listen

An old murder. A new threat. Can Poe find the killer before it's too late?

Edgar Allan "Poe" Rutherford is Maui's best unlicensed private investigator. When a client asks Poe to look into a decade-old death on the beach, he can't help but be intrigued. The police ruled it a suicide, but it's up to him to prove otherwise.

As soon as Poe takes the case, people related to the victim start turning up dead - a sure sign that he's on the right track. But can Poe identify the killer...before he becomes the next victim?

Hot Sun Cold Killer is the fourth standalone novel in a series of clever mysteries set in paradise. If you like colorful characters, witty humor, and warm sand between your toes, then you'll love Robert W. Stephens' Murder on Maui series.

Great new Narrator, but...

Robert! How could you do this 2 books in a row? Poe's relentless pursuit, logic and even luck, have pulled him through "almost" every case. This ending is not satisfying for us Truth, Justice and the American Way kind of readers... Still, I very much enjoyed it regardless of the "only" 4 stars I gave it. Naturally, I'll continue the series and "HOPE" to some futures resolutions to these cases.

First smart mystery in a long time

Perhaps it's because I've gotten into listening to Cozy Mysteries, because I get tired of all the the no Talent writers that can't come up with a good plot or dialogue so they have to put explicit sex every six pages to hide the fact that they have no Talent. I've been reading and listening to Hawaiian based Mysteries the last year most have been mine numbingly stupid for the protagonist is constantly doing something that nobody in their right mind would do and being very annoying at it or I don't have a story so we go back to the sex situation. I found this book absolutely entertaining the protagonist if he did something stupid like they all do, he basically let us know he was doing something stupid or we thought he was doing something stupid but he wasn't ,I know what I said was kind of confusing, whatever I thought the characters were Sharp the lead was sharp most of the bad guys that mattered were Sharp even if you did guess who the bad guy was. Poe had money didn't mind if you knew he had it, didn't throw around amounts, wasn't a total jerk not even sure I would call him any kind of a jerk, just likeable. Maui the dog was fun because that was just his name it didn't seem unnatural, I don't know how many series I've read were people have named their dog or cat something like Butch Ellis Ferguson or some nonsense and called him that constantly nothing for short like Butch or Ellis or Fergie that drives me crazy. also the women in this book are not the annoying snoops that 99% of clean Mysteries are they're not running around putting themselves in danger in this book for one thing the protagonist is a male he does a couple stupid things but then what fun would book be if they didn't do a couple stupid things, anyway writer a sense of humor and not afraid to show it . I started with this book I'm going to go back two read book one , It had a good mystery the ending was very good. So looking for a good not x-rated mystery series ,set in Hawaii this is a winner, winner. First five stars I've given in I don't know how long

Nice Mystery Series

This is book 4 of the murder on Maui mystery series. The characters and relationships have grown over the series. However, the book can be read as a stand alone book. Over the course of listening the island of Maui becomes very familiar and you can escape to Poe’s & Alana’s slice of paradise for a few hours. The books are cozy mysteries; no graphic language or graphic sex scenes. (Mentions of sexual situations do occur. )

The 1st 2 books in the series contain far more humor than books 3 & 4. The mysteries are all about the same complexity. So, if you enjoyed one you will probably enjoy the others.

The narrator is very gifted and is used in book 2 & books 4-9. Which is quite nice.
