About this listen

From New York Times best-selling author John Lescroart, a riveting stand-alone novel about the unexpected, shattering, and lethal consequences of a one-night stand on a seemingly happily married couple.

Kate loves her life. At 44 she's happily married to her kind husband, Ron, blessed with two wonderful children, and has a beautiful home in San Francisco. Everything changes, however, when she and Ron attend a dinner party and meet another couple, Peter and Jill. Kate and Peter exchange only a few pleasant words, but that night, in bed with her husband, Kate is suddenly overcome with a burning desire for Peter.

What begins as an innocent crush soon develops into a dangerous obsession, and Kate's fixation on Peter results in one intense, passionate encounter between the two. Confident that her life can now go back to normal, Kate never considers that Peter may not be so willing to move on.

Not long after their affair, a masked man barges into the café Kate is sitting in with her best friend, firing an assault weapon indiscriminately into the crowd. This tragedy is the first in a series of horrifying events that will show Kate just how grave the consequences of one mistake can be.

An explosive story of infidelity, danger, and moral ambiguity, John Lescroart's latest thriller will excite and satisfy both his current and new fans.

twists and turns

I liked the narrators voice. I listen to this while I'm working so I don't concentrate as much as when I read a book. this book has twists and several characters, so I don't recommend taking long breaks in between listening like I did.

WHY WRITE A BOOK WITH SUCH A HOKEY ENDING?

Is there anything you would change about this book?
YES. IT NEDED A GOOD OUTLINE. WHERE THE AUTHOR KNEW HOW THE BOOK WOULD END. IT WAS VERY WEAK! RUINED THE WHOLE BOOK. I WON'T READ THIS AUTHOR AGAIN!

What was most disappointing about John Lescroart’s story?
THE VERY UNCLEVER ENDING.

Have you listened to any of Jacques Roy’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I DON'T KNOW BUT THE READING WAS VERY GOOD.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?
NO BETCHA LIFETIME WOULD HAVE THIS ONE. LIFETIME PICKS MOVIES WITH DUMB WEAK ENDINGS.

Any additional comments?
I GAVE IT AN OVER ALL OF THREE BECAUSE THE BOOK WAS ENGAGING UNTIL THE LAST SEVEN OR EIGHT CHAPTERS. THEN IT STARTED TO DETERIORATE.

A great story!

You will want to keep listening. The characters will keep you listening. Even though I figured out who did it pretty early on I wanted to know how they solved the murder and what happened to the people.

Political Agenda

I think the author was more worried about getting her political agenda across more than telling a truly good book.

Interesting murder mystery

What did you love best about Fatal?

The book was provided free for an honest review. I felt the book had some interesting twists. It was not entirely unpredictable.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not really

Which character – as performed by Jacques Roy – was your favorite?

Beth - as a detective investigating a murder after being a victim of a terrorist actack was an interesting approach.

Any additional comments?

Somehow, I felt the ending was a bit weak. Just MHO.

Hanky panky Can Ruin many lives

This book was very hard to put down. it kept moving with a few surprises While a stretch this probably does happen. People should weigh the consequences of their actions. The ending was okay but I would have liked a more conclusive finality. I prefer the Dismas Hardy series John Lescroart has written. his earlier ones were super but his last few have not been as exciting and have been a little thin in substance. This may be the path he will take yo return to legal thrillers of another kind.

It was pretty engaging...

Until the procedural part of it literally dragged until the very end of the book. It was like watching a Law & Order marathon on TBS. it's interesting for the first three episodes, and then you tune it out as you get other things done.

Not what you would expect

The plot summary will have you thinking this is the typical "fatal attraction" story except the author does not develop it along the expected line. The writing is above par, which makes it immensely readable. Characters are great.
