About this listen

This is the personal side of battle, where emotion, courage, and strength are stretched to the limits.

In one of the most compelling combat narratives ever written, Staff Sergeant David Bellavia, an Army infantry platoon leader in Iraq, gives a teeth-rattling, first-hand account of 11 straight days of heavy house-to-house fighting during the climactic second battle of Fallujah. His actions in the firefight, which included killing five insurgents in hand-to-hand combat, earned Bellavia the Bronze Star, the Silver Star, and New York State's highest military honor, the Conspicuous Service Cross. He has been nominated for the Medal of Honor and for the Army's second-highest combat medal, the Distinguished Service Cross.

One of the best audio books I have listened to

Any additional comments?

This book gives a brilliant insight of what it was like to be in the US Army, in Iraq, post Saddam. The author is very funny, honest and doesn't spare the listener from any of the horrors of war. This is a book you must get.

A story that strikes me speechless.

This is by far the most intense and emotional war memoir I have ever read. I have never been pulled into the fight like I was in SSG Bellavia’s telling.

A true Hero Warriors Story

Ssgt Bellavia's account of his time fighting in Fallujah, Iraq, is so compelling. It draws you into each and every moment of his time fighting the enemy. My nerves and mind were swept up with every detail described in Ssgt Bellavia's book.
My anxiety hit an all time high fearing for every soldier in David's platoon.
May God's peace be granted to every survivor of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

#1 Best of the Best War Books of All Time

What did you love best about House to House?

This novel is perfection in every respect, both the hard cover and the audiobook. A super-maximum 10-stars best of all Middle East wars books. THE best hand-to-hand combat scene EVER. It makes the scene in Saving Private Ryan look like girls scouts dry-humping each other.

Who was your favorite character and why?

You're kidding, right? SSG Bellavia, of course.

Which scene was your favorite?

The hand-to-hand scene.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The hand-to-hand scene.

Any additional comments?

Bellavia has tried unsuccessfully to run for a Congressional seat in New York State. WTF do they want, a Wiener? For Christ's Sakes!

excellent recounting

foot soldiers perspective from on the ground in Fallujah. without a doubt the best narration I've heard on audible. miles better then the super phony Texas accent the guy reading American Sniper tries to pull off. I like listening to Ray

Most Excellent

This is now the best memoir of war I have ever read/listened to. SSG David Bellavia tells his story with such deep emotion, and at times you feel like you are right in the story with him. The narration by Ray Porter is just perfect. Highly Highly Recommended.
