About this listen

Being given yet another pointless 'man manual' that told him 50 ways to tie a bow tie in under 30 seconds made James May certain there was a need for another kind of book. This book, in fact. He reckons there are nine vital things that a chap should be able to do.

Not stuff you can download from the Internet, but really important things. You never know when you might need to land an A330 Airbus, or deliver twins. And there may well be a moment when being able to play a bit of classical music on the piano is absolutely crucial to your success with women. So read, learn, and be prepared - you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

It’s fun

Well if you like James May you would find this quite fun and entertaining walking you through several odd predicaments you may find yourself in at some point in life or not. Wonderful narration by James himself.

James May At His Best

He May have been known as Captain Slow, on “Top Gear,” but reveals his many talents in this book. He has a great British type of humor that enables him to make even the most dreadful hypothetical situations, hilarious. Not to mention the fact, that it is possible some of the scenarios, in this book, could actually happen.

James May is a man full of talents. Have an amazing imagination, and a great ability to convey them.

Entertaining.

It was an interesting and enjoyable book. James adds plenty of dry humor and useful facts along the way. Worth a listen if only for fun.

tonight!!

james reads a book, Richard has a crash, and Jeremy stays out of it. I could have done without the cannibalism part but other than that it's good.

Dry humor

Had no idea how much dry humor there is in British writing. Kind of took some getting used to but after a while it became more funny.

Not as good as James May's 20th century

20th century was more informative and entertaining. This was still very good. James May has a great voice for this.

Hey, you never know when this'll cone in handy...

Captain Slow to the rescue, although it's perhaps ironic that this book flies by so fast. Got a few hours to kill? This one will do it in style, like walking calmly away from an explosion.

Not great, but good

Any additional comments?

Many of the 'skills' it teaches are mundane, barely relevant. But it has a few good ones. Bonus points for the narration, by James May himself.

James May at his best .... wish it was longer

if you like James May and his rambling zig-zag style, this book is already a must hear (rather than read). funny in his trade mark style, this will be exactly what you think it is. broken into separate narrative chapters only the first is about landing the plane.

Wish it was longer, and with a little more meat on the bone, but an excellent weekend listen all the same
