About this listen

THE STORY CONTINUES in the fifth volume of Hiccup's How to Train Your Dragon memoirs ... read by David Tennant.

Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III was an awesome sword-fighter, a dragon-whisperer and the greatest Viking Hero who ever lived. But it wasn't always like that. Hiccup's memoirs look back to when Hiccup was just an ordinary boy, and finding it very hard to be a Hero. Someone has stolen the Fire Egg. Now the Volcano on Volcano Island is active and the tremors are hatching the eggs of the Exterminator dragons! Can Hiccup return the Fire Egg to the Volcano, stop the Volcano from erupting, AND save the Tribes from being wiped out by the terrible sword-claws of the Exterminators?

How to Train Your Dragon is now a major DreamWorks franchise starring Gerard Butler, Cate Blanchett and Jonah Hill and the TV series, Riders of Berk, can be seen on CBeebies and Cartoon Network.

Read all of Hiccup's exploits in the series: How to Train Your Dragon, How to Be a Pirate, How to Speak Dragonese, How to Cheat a Dragon's Curse, How to Twist a Dragon's Tale, A Hero's Guide to Deadly Dragons, How to Ride a Dragon's Storm, How to Break a Dragon's Heart, How to Steal a Dragon's Sword, How to Seize a Dragon's Jewel, How to Betray a Dragon's Hero and How to Fight a Dragon's Fury.

I really enjoy this series of books. When my son is a little older, we will read and listen to these books. David Tennant is a fantastic narrator, his voices are hilarious and wonderful. I highly recommend!

Great for kids and those young at heart!

Loved this, and you always know who's coming back in one of the next books.

This may be my favorite book in the series!

I like kid books on occasion. Don't get into this one thinking its anything like the movie though. So long as you keep the two separate from each other its enjoyable even for adults. Very cute and adorable as well as a lot of fun.

Adorable

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, my son's could not stop listening. David Tennant's delivery of this tale just proves he is a multi-faceted actor. We (yeah, I couldn't stop listening either) have listened to all the stories up to this one and look forward to the rest ... especially if Mr. Tennant performs.

What did you like best about this story?

Non-stop action by a group of friends. Cressida Cowell has penned a classic series of tales. This one continues the adventure and Hiccup is one of those hero's that is able to provide the fun example of why violence is not always the best response to a situation. Cressida is able to use suitably engaging names (Snotlout, Gobber the Belch) and situations for boys hitting their potty humour stage of life. Just plain good fun from start to finish!

What about David Tennant’s performance did you like?

David Tennant is able breathe life into each character with his incredible range of voices. You do not have any doubt about who has spoken a line or what is to be conveyed. Yet another simply incredible performance from a very talented actor.

A "Twisted" blast!

Any additional comments?

Over summer vacation the kids and I listened to 4 of the series of 8. It was great fun and David Tennant made the characters come alive with different voices and personalities.

Unfortunately, the Australian family’s tour has come to an end and they were unable to enjoy this next volume with me. I can’t help to imagine all the parts they would have enjoyed.

Again, this book is so cleverly written and had me laughing and sitting on the edge of my seat several times!

Well done again to both author and narrator. You both are truly gifted!

Such a great series!
