Publisher's summary

Recaptured during her escape from zone four, Maci Bishop wakes up in the mysterious, heavily fortified zone two, where wealthy citizens come to sate sordid, homicidal appetites by hunting death row inmates in a wooded enclosure. Live on camera, for spectators watching from the Resort.

Maci is rented as a plaything for a guest at the Resort, but when she kills her first customer in self-defense, her life sentence quickly becomes a death sentence. To teach the other women a lesson, the warden throws Maci into the enclosure, to be hunted alongside a vicious death row inmate named Callum.

Though at first he believes the beautiful, half-naked woman is bait intended to lure him out, Callum saves Maci from a brutal death. As they fight their way through the enclosure, taking on hunters, guards, and ruthless robotic hounds, he falls hard for the tiny, clever hellcat and discovers she may just have the skills to get them both out of the enclosure alive.

But Maci won't abandon the other women to pay for her escape. Not again. She won't be satisfied until she shuts down the entire Resort: clients, guards, hounds, and all. And there's no way in hell Callum will let her walk into the lion's den alone....

Dark and action packed

Holy guacamole, this book is excellent! It is action packed and steamy. It's about how Macie, from the first book, is recaptured, her sentence to death and her escape. So good!!

Omg loved it! Loved it! What. Lovely second book! This series is magical. The plot was so much fun, such a mixture of technology and pure human willpower.

Very entertaining sci-fi romance!

This was an enjoyable audiobook to listen to, though listening to the hardships the 2 main characters went through made me tired (just kidding!). The heroine is brought to the prison planet for hacking into a government system. The hero is on death row for killing a thief. She finds out she’s expected to be a prostitute for the “resort” the warden runs, who is getting rich by using prisoners. She kills her first customer while trying to stop him from raping her and is sentenced to death. The hero is brought to a area called “the enclosure” where a rich guy will hunt and kill him for sport. Unfortunately, the rich guy is the brother of the guy the heroine killed and she gets thrown in for him to hunt as well. Working together they attempt to defeat the hunter and the prisons surveillance system. Narration was well done!

Just call her Hellcat-niss Everdeen!

Boy, did Marci have the most kickbutt glow-up ever from the previous book! Sure, there were signs of her gumption in the first story, but she spent most of book 1 being the scrawny, adopted little sister to Audra, protected and untouched. In this book, she showed that brains could be just as good as brawn.
This was also a little less dark and a little more fun with a flirtatious Callum and an irrepressible Marci.

As much as I loved Marci the Hell Kitten, and enjoyed the romance between her and Callum, there were two downsides to this installment:

First, 80% of this book was just the two of them on the run thru the forest- it felt like a series of run, shelter, sex, repeat (and getting it on while fleeing gruesome death is one of the more eye rolling plots).
It was entertaining the first few hours and then got old. I found myself longing for the Hunger Games variation of having other competitors in the mix.

Second, other than the MMCs, every single male was a villain who abused women at every opportunity. Freed from death row? Instead of running, they stop to ravish the girl. Soldier manning the gate? If a girl wanted to pass, she had to put out. Bad guy wanted them dead? Yes, but first he’d have his way with her.
It was over the top and unpalatable.

The last two hours provided a great prison break segment, with Marci being just as much a force to be reckoned with as Callum (maybe even more so with her tech skills). The end wasn’t so much a cliffhanger as a teaser for the next book. This was still a very good listen.

Great story theme!

I listened to book 1 and thought that this was an interesting idea. Well come to book 2 and it was even more interesting yet. I definitely plan to listen to the whole series. If I had to come up with one thing I didn’t like about this book it was the female character. She made some stupid decisions and I generally like stronger female leads. But I still thought this was a great book I finished it in 2 days. I even got my boyfriend hook on this series too.

Good story!

I started with book 1, which was also very addictive. It is well written, the characters are good. I will have to listen to the next book now!

The hunter becomes the hunted!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌎
Character development: 🤓☺️😳🤪🥰
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Macie - she played a big part in the first book, Guardian. Macie is 20 Earth years old, but looks a lot younger than that and Audra took Macie under her wing when they arrived on the prison planet and were in danger in Zone 4. Now Macie is having to deal with things alone after being moved to Zone 2, otherwise known as “The Resort”.

The Hero: Callum - Callum is on death row on the prison planet. Also in Zone 2. “The resort is very different for male prisoners than the female, non death row inmates. Callum has been there for nearly a year and it is his turn to be executed.

The Story: The women are in barracks and are required to keep everything clean, including themselves. Once a day they are brought to posh suites of rooms where they have to be naked ‘companions’ for wealthy men. When Macie kills the man trying to rape her, she is then relegated to be put to death.

The men on death row, get put in the enclosure where they are hunted by wealthy men. It is Callum’s turn, but when the man hunting Callum finds out that Macie murdered his brother, he decides he wants to be the one to put her to death, so she is put in the enclosure along with Callum. As seen in the first book, Macie has some sort of psychic ability where she knows ahead of time when certain things are going to happen. She has nothing left to lose so she plans on killing the hunter, not unlike Callum who plans on taking as many people down as he can before he dies.

Like the first book, this was told in dual points of view via dual narration. Narrated by Jillian Macie and Aiden Snow who both did a terrific job. In the first book, I thought Jillian sounded a bit too old, but I don’t think that is true in this one. I am not sure if she used a different voice or accent or maybe I just got used to her narration, but I liked it in this one. Aiden Snow, as always has a deep sexy voice which I love. I could listen to him all day.

The one thing I didn’t like, which I hate in any science fiction romance books is when the two main characters don’t speak the same language. Also, one thing I can’t stand in books, is when couples pause in dangerous situations for sexy time. These two people are being hunted in the woods by a hunter armed with a high tech laser gun and they do that pause on more than one occasion. Though the best part about this one was that meek little Macie turned out to be a kick-ass heroine.

Loved the Story...Not So Much the Narration

I liked the story. I'd listened to #1, so was really looking forward to listening to #2, until...until the male narrator started. It makes me have to ask: Who, in all that's sacred in the world of narrators, gave the green light for him to read/speak in the stilted way he did? He read the entire script in a staccato speech pattern, as though every word was a sentence. On top of which, most of his vowels were hard. Don't know what he was supposed to sound like, but it was awful to listen to. He narrated the 1st book, and has an excellent voice, just not like this.
