About this listen

Tony Hillerman's best-selling reservation series occupies a unique place in the world of mystery novels. By combining Native American lore and history with suspenseful crime stories, he enlightens and entertains his many fans. Hunting Badger takes you to the Navajo reservation where police sergeant Jim Chee is facing a thorny dilemma. One year ago, Sgt. Chee was part of an FBI search for two cop killers. The men were never caught, and Chee has always blamed police rivalry for the failure. Now several commandos have robbed a casino on the Ute reservation. Police suspect they are hiding in the same area as the cop killers. Reluctantly, Chee joins the manhunt, with Joe Leaphorn by his side. The reunion of Chee and Leaphorn adds a warm touch to this thrilling fast-paced tale. Mounting danger and suspense surround the two lawmen and friends as they close in on their prey. Based on actual events, Hunting Badger is as colorful as a southwestern sunset, especially through George Guidall's sparkling narration.

Great Read

Tony Hillerman at his finest. Interesting characters, plot, circumstances. Weaving of Leaphorn’s retirement and Jim Chee’s personal and professional situations is well done. Only problem: I could have used at least another hour.

Hillerman comes through again. Leaphorn, Chee, and Manolitos relationship has come together in true Hillerman form. George Guildell is great

Solid Leaphorn/Chee Mystery

Another excellent Hillerman story. Interesting plot and good character development of the main characters.

NB: Like all(?) Hillerman books, this is a bit short, but reading a book that can be finished in a few hours can be a nice palate cleanser after reading modern doorstops.

I can’t get enough of the series!

I have read the Joe Leaphorn & Jim Chee series many years ago. I am listening now and enjoying Tony Hillerman’s writing all over again. I love the southwest and enjoy looking at the mountains. It makes me think of the books when I see I am in Navaho country.

I wish it were longer!

Great Chee and Leaphorn story in classic Tony Hillerman fashion. I love all of these books.

The 3 main characters and the description of the area it occurs

I like the Tony Hillman stories and setting in his series. The characters are enjoyable and very human characters.

Sharply crafted exceptional Hilkerman book

One of Hilkerman’s best—clear plot line, well developed and growing character relationships, expertly woven role of Southwestern geography and Navajo way, great intersections of different indigenous tribal groups, differing law enforcement agents, and individuals within the story.

A decent Hillerman book

Not a stand out book in the series but no bad either. Good to see the Chee and Manolito characters grow a bit. The reader was excellent.
