About this listen

David escapes from the concentration camp where he has spent his entire life and flees across Europe. He is utterly alone – who can he trust? What will await him? And all the while, how can he be sure that they won’t catch up with him...David learns that his polite manner, his haunted eyes and his thin features are strange to other people. He must learn to fend for himself in this strange new world.

This is The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas meets Jonathan Safran Foer for children. An incredible story of survival against all odds and self discovery.

Loved the story, how it unfolded. I was pressed with the fact of how much we take for granted. Life is beautiful and we are blessed. God’s sovereignty was portrayed beautifully. Recommend.

What a beautiful story

What a treat to read something with such a good underlying message but with such a well crafted storyline. It was one of those books that left me wishing for the story to continue. The author very effectively delivered glimpses into a world seen through the eyes of a child, and then added on experiences so we could share in the evolution. Really it was captivating from the beginning, and the main character (David) was wonderful company.

Thought provoking, engaging and enjoyable

I had this book when I was in grade school and loved it! I’m 69 now and was thrilled to read it again. It was just as good now as back then.

The writer has captured the contrast of the naïveté and worldliness of David beautifully. I just want to keep reading.

Such a wonderfully deep book, for a children's book. This book portrays, in such detail, the true meaning and worth of freedom. The reader is fantastic! He gets the emotion. He gets the depth.

Awesome book showing the true meaning of FREEDOM!
